This is the perfect mayonnaise for sandwiches, deviled eggs and more. For potato salad I used a third nonfat Greek yogurt, a third low-fat sour cream and a third of this, plus a bit of sugar, mustard, salt, and pepper. I wish it were more widely available in stores. It has a third of the calories of other "light" mayos.
I am trying to cut down the fat/carb/sugar intake in my household but it's hard to compromise all taste. This mayo is close enough to the full fat that it is unnoticeable when put in recipes. I have made spinach and artichoke dip, macaroni salad for parties/pot lucks and no one could tell the difference. There is a slight difference in a sandwhich but worth it. And tastes so much better than the light version. But DO not get it mixed up with the other green cap (olive color) I did once and threw that out right away.
You can't expect a low fat version of any product to actually equal the original. That said, Best Foods Low Fat Mayonnaise comes very close to the "real" thing. I pick up a jar anytime I am out west as I detect a slightly different (and preferable) taste that the Hellmann's we have in the East. Unfortunately, the last time I was out west , I could not find the low fat 15 calorie Best Foods Mayonnaise anywhere and so I left empty handed... maybe my next trip!
I like mayo as a base for so many sauces and dips, but I hate the calories. This stuff does the trick. It's not exactly the same in taste and texture, of course, but it's quite good. If I had never tasted original mayo, and only had experience with the low-fat version, I would think the original mayo tasted odd and fatty. Just depends on what you get used to/expect. This version is perfect for sandwiches, potato or egg or tuna salad, as a base to make sauce for pasta or veggie salads, whatever I normally use mayo for. Works fine with any kind of seasonings - lemon pepper, curry, Italian, garlic and onion, Creole, whatever. Except now it doesn't turn a low-calorie food like tuna or veggies into a high-calorie nightmare. The only problem is that it is hard to find in my area. When I find it again, I will definitely stock up.
I have found that for taste and texture, this is THE BEST overall low fat mayonnaise product out there. I have a medical condition that doesn't allow me to digest fats readily as well as being gluten free for the same reason. It is very difficult to find products that allow me some sense of normalcy, beads and dressings being right there at the top of the list. Thank you BEST FOODS for providing such a wonderful product. now, if it were just easier to find in my area.
I was pleasantly surprised ! I used it for tuna and added just a little lime juice , salt and pepper with cilantro and red onion. I ate it on lettus leaves instead of bread , fabulous ! It was like a quick fish taco . I'll be eating that again and again ! Makes a quick and deliciously satisfying lunch .
I made identical shrimp salads with "lite" and "Low Fat" and prefered the "low fat" as a fresher/brighter taste on the lettuce, onion, celery and pepper mix.
I am on a weight loss program and this saves the day. We make our favorite Coleslaw with this mayo and it works perfectly. Also, it save tons of calories on our Naked Chicken Sandwiches. I could go on and on but you get the idea. Thanks BestFoods.
I love Hellman's and I always buy light mayo, but this time I thought give this one a try. This is nothing like the light, it tastes horrible, is kind of sticky and the texture is very weird. Once I saw that, I started looking at the ingredients... why they added High Fructose Corn Syrup??? this ingredient leads to obesity and diabetes and GI issues in the long term (which is ridiculous, because if you buy this product is because you either are trying to look for a healthier option or to lose weight). Won't buy this ever again. I prefer 20 more calories every tbsp (compared with light) than this...
i purchased this low fat mayo the other day. i was so excited to try it because i love the regular best foods mayo and i'm looking for a better alternative to eating right...well, i was really disappointed. i mixed it with my tuna to make sandwiches for lunch and now i feel as though i wasted money on this jar along with the can of tuna that i had purchased. i would like to try the other ones: olive oil, canola, and light; however, i'm not sure i want to invest more money to be disappointed again. i may just stick to the regular mayo. sorry, but this is a no go.
