Super powerful

No dust it safe from this guy. The battery lasts a long time for the amount of power it has. It does take 9 hours to fully charge though that's the only thing I don't like about it. I recommend it!

Does what a Hand Vac should do...

This vac met and exceeded all my expectations... (1) Excellent battery life. I have several tools (leaf blower, drill, string cutter, etc) that all use this same battery system. With my usage (light usage, several times a week), the battery seems to last about a month in the Hand Vac before needing recharging. I have extra batteries so I always have one charging. (2) Excellent flexibility of use. I primarily use the hand vac for what a hand vac was designed - quick clean-up's. Saw dust and various dry spills around the work bench are obvious uses. It does a great job keeping the carpet in the car clean, it even comes with a little attachment that fits down nicely in the crevice between the door and the seat. I use it to clean the mats at the various doors around the house, it comes with a little tool (with a fixed brush) that works well on low pile carpet mats. It is not a replacement for a full fledged vacuum, you still need to vacuum once in a while. (3) A saw a complaint about the exhaust blower. It blows downward if you hold the hand vac flat, but it is not designed to be used flat. It is designed to be used at an angle. so the exhaust actually blows out the back. I have never had the blower disturb what I am cleaning up. All in all, it depends on your expectations. I am not expecting it to be a vacuum to be used to clean a whole room. Or do do a full fledged cleanup of the car or garage. I am expecting it to do quick clean-ups for those times when I don't want to drag the vacuum out. For me, the battery system was the big seller. The ability to remove and recharge the battery was key. Since I have other tools that use the same system, I always have 2-3 batteries recharging at any given time - so if my battery runs out unexpectedly, I have back-up.

It is really a good product. It is easy to recharge. The charge is 15 minutes. Thus, you can do a lot of cleaning up with it.

This was purchased as a replacement for an older hand held vac. Love this product. It is light weight and stays charged a good 15 minutes.

My several years old "Shark" finally wouldn't hold a charge so I bought this B & D thinking it would be a step up in a quick and easy hand held cordless vac. It might well be a very good vac once you have it in hand, charged up, and attacking a few dust bunnies or whatever little job is at hand. My goal is to have a quick and easy vac for small jobs that I don't have to mess with to ensure it's there and ready to go whenever I need it. The problem with this one is that you have to slide out the battery pack to hook it up to the charger and then, obviously, unplug the battery pack and install it back into the unit when you need to do some vacuuming. It doesn't seem that tough to have a second plug in on the battery pack so you can leave it on the vacuum for charging and therefore ready for quick and convenient use with a full charge whenever the need comes up. As with some of the competetion, a wall mounted holder with integral charger connections would be a nice touch. Also, they make it a little tough to figure out, but the battery pack is an "old school" NiCad set up to run at 18 volts. It's going back for a lower voltage, lower priced, and much more convienent unit. To me, the whole idea behind these little cordless, hand held vacs is primarily "ease of use". Just wanted anyone considering buying this unit to be informed as to the "rest of the story" that you can't see on the labeling/packaging.

Poor Design

Reviewed in the USA on 2013-03-02T16:00:00

I liked this design because it fit my other 18v batteries and it seemed like a durable, small shop vacuum. But the design is terrible. The air blows out the bottom and toward the rear, but it hits the battery and blows down and in all directions. It blows what you're trying to vacuum... that nice little pile is blown everywhere. This one never should have made it to the assembly line. I'm calling Black and Decker to see what they can do to get me a different model.

Good power, poor battery

I bought the predecessor to this Dustbuster, which has great pickup for light and quick cleanup of messes, but the battery life is terrible because B&D unwisely used a NiCd battery that loses charge after 3-4 cleanups of more than 30 seconds. Until they provide a NiMH or LiIon battery, don't buy this.
