I have never been able to cut grass because the gas and grass smell made it hard to breath. This mower has no smell. The mulching cuts the grass up so fine I don't even see anything on my clothes or shoes. I have a typical 60' X 120' suburban lot and sutracting the house and driveway I am cuting around 5000 sq feet. This mower is perfect. It is easy to push on flat areas so I only use the self propelled on upgrades. I was able to cut my lawn and also the area between my driveway and my neighbors on one charge. We take turns cutting the area between houses and driveways and yesterday I cut the areas on both sides and still had battery power left. I do agree with other reviewers that the slowest self propelled speed is a little too fast for my short legs. We have used it 3 times since purchase and have had no problems. Super easy to clean also. We bring the battery in to charge it and will probably buy another battery just in case.
Let me set the scenario so anyone reading this review can understand the issues I've had finding a lawnmower that I was able to physically use: I'm 63, female, small in stature. In the past 11 months, I've had a gas self propelled (couldn't pull the cord to start it) so I bought a Toro self propelled "easy start" (couldn't pull the cord to start it) so I bought the Black and Decker electric mower (didn't have the strength to push it), and FINALLY this machine. Perfect machine if you're looking for an easy start, easy to use lawnmower, and does a great job.
My husband opened his new toy and could not wait to go out and cut the grass. He left the reading of the directions to me! He came back in the house shortly thereafter very disgusted and said it just skims over the grass, doesn't cut, I can't adjust the blade, etc. I told him to read the book. So about a week later, after reading the book, he tries again. This time I went outside with him. Before he started it, I told him he needed to push the button while he was pulling on the bar and he said, Oh, what button?? I showed him and voila..... he was off and running. That first time, he never pushed the button on the side. MEN!! His only complaint now is he has it on the slowest speed and it still goes too fast. LOL Poor thing, he has Neuropathy and can't walk very fast. Now he loves the lawn mower. We have a fairly large side yard, it's a corner property and so he did the front and sides in one day and then came back and did the backyard another. Great lawnmower and so nice to not have to drag around an electric cord or buy and store gas. At 74 if he's going to do the lawn it has to be easy and this makes the chore easy. Clean up is a breeze! We put Pam on the bottom.
I knew that this mower would not have the power to cut through tall wet grass like my Snapper Hi vac, but it sure surprised me with the quality of construction. The single lever control for the height adjustment and high impact deck are highlights for me. I love the fact that I don't need to wear hearing protection now. I find I don't need to use the self-propel feature but it is nice when having to mow an incline. I initially thought I would need to buy a spare battery because of the amount of grass I have to mow but now I am finding that if I practice a little "battery management" when mowing I may not need to. Very happy with this purchase so far.
Being 67 I found trying to start my conventional mower with the pull cord was getting next to impossible so I went looking for a mower that would be easier to start and i didn't want to worry about dragging a cord all over the yard. This mower works great! Push button start and has plenty of power and battery charge to mow my front and back yards easily. I was pleasantly surprised when I accidentally mowed the first time on "mulch" and found it did such a good job, I'm no longer using the bag at all and using mulch mode all the time . It does take a while to get used to the power of the "self-propelled" feature when making turns and learn how to pause that drive while turning but easily mastered. Perfect mower for my needs.
We have had this mower a few weeks, and have mowed our yard 3 times. It is great! The yard is about 1/3 acre and the battery has lasted to mow both front and back yard, which takes about 1 hour 15 minutes. We have had extremely heavy rain, and the grass has been thick and tall, and slightly wet. We mowed at the highest setting and went slowly over the very thick areas and it could handle it. So far, we haven't used the self propel feature very much, since it doesn't seem to mulch as well when going so fast. We love the fact that it is quiet enough to talk to someone without turning it off. And the weight of it is OK to push without using the self propel, although this is my teenage sons doing the mowing! It seems to mulch very well, without any noticeable clumps of grass remaining, but just very small clippings that easily settle back into the grass. We have not tried bagging the grass since it mulches so well, I can't see why we would want to bag. The handle easily folds back over it, to take up very little garage storage space. We got the 3 year warranty in case of problems. But honestly, if this only lasts 3 years, it's worth it for not having to get gas for it! I'm thrilled with this mower so far! LOVE downsizing from a huge yard that required a riding mower, to a smaller yard with this superb eco-friendly mower!
This is a great machine if you cannot over exert due to a medical condition. It allows you to take breaks because it needs recharging. This machine is made for a small yard. The self-propelled feature is wonderful but it sucks up most of your power. It is not for people on the go and in a hurry to get the yard done. It's ideal for us retired folks who have time to sit, rest and wait for it to recharge. I'm not exhausted at the end of yard work with this machine as I was with the "pull the string" gas mower. I recommend it for us older folks.
It works wonderful. I am a 58 year old women who is having to mow a decent sized corner yard. I have to use the self propelled almost the whole time since the grass is very thick and there is no level ground. I can mow the front yard and half of the back before it needs to be charged. This is only the second time I have used it and the instructions say it might take 4-5 times to get a full charge. However I need a rest after mowing the front and edging and trimming the whole yard! So I do not mind waiting to mow the backyard.
I've used the Black and Decker 24V push mower for the last 5 Years and was able to mow front & back yards about 3 times on a full charge. Now that I'm older (67) and get a stiff back pushing the mower, I gave it (still works great) to my stepson and bought the 36V self propelled. After mowing both yards it is down to less than half charge; I suppose because it uses more energy being self propelled. That's about half the cutting capacity of the old mower, but the SP model works great! The cut is smooth & effortless, and I find that the slowest speed is fast enough for me (again, I'm older...). The controls are easy to use, the mower is pretty quiet, and it completely meets my needs. Charging time is several hours, so it might not be suitable for LARGE lawns, but it is excellent for the average home with front & back yards. I would definitely buy this mower.
Can not give rating as the lawn mower was damaged in shipping and had to return. Was my main purpose of ordering online and ship to home so that I wouldn't have to get someone else to haul from or to store. Would try again but have had problems with FedX delivery before. Only recommend because of other reviews.
