This iron is the best. It is easy to use, auto shut-off, durable, beeps when it is ready... it is the greatest. I've recommended to two of my girlfriends and they love it too! I'm on line to buy one for my mom! Highly recommend this iron.
Not sure I realized how bad my old iron was until I got this one. It works great and is very easy to use and learn how to use. It is amazing how fast I got done with ironing compared to my old iron!
I bought this iron about 6 years ago. We iron clothes for all five in my family, most every day. I have gotten more than my money's worth out of it so I purchased a new one to replace the old. The heating element went out in the old one, but after as much ironing as it has done, I am very impressed.
We had a Hamilton Beach iron that shorted-out, and we were glad it did. We will never buy a Hamilton Beach iron again. Besides shorting-out, it also leaked badly through the steam holes (even on high temperature settings) leaving big wet spots on our clothes. When it bit the dust, I wanted to get this Black & Decker Digital Advantage D1600. Unfortunately, our local Walmart didn't carry it, so we settled for a cheaper Sunbeam iron that we could take home right away. We got the Sunbeam Steam Master Iron With Retractable Cord (Model 4214). It took all of about 5 minutes of use to know we would be returning it ASAP. The two main reasons: Non-stick plate and retractable cord. The non-stick plate was awful! We've never used one before, and we'll never get one again. It has WAY more friction than a stainless steel plate, so it was a royal pain to iron anything. It just gripped the clothes instead of gliding over them. And the retractable cord was pathetic. We pulled the cord out, used the iron, and then tried to retract the cord and the darn thing wouldn't even retract all the way. It was the first time we had used it! I pulled it out again to try once more, still no good! The retractable spring was just too weak to wind-up the cord fully. Pathetic! So, that leads me to this wonderful Black & Decker Digital Advantage D1600, which I ended-up ordering online and having it shipped to my local store. I had used my sister's Black & Decker iron once (an older and more basic model), and I was impressed with how well it utilized steam to get the wrinkles out while I ironed. So, I was eager to give this Black & Decker Digital Advantage a try. As soon as I got it home, my wife and I both ironed a couple of shirts and one or two pairs of pants. Our verdict was unanimous... This is a great iron! The digital read-out makes setting the temperature easy and accurate. The steam works great to get the wrinkles out. There's been no leaking nor any wet spots left on the clothes, and the stainless steel plate glides easily with very little friction. So far, we are very happy with this iron. It's too early to speak on long-term durability, but as far as ironing goes, the Black & Decker Digital Advantage D1600 is a hands down winner for our household of seven. As a side note... I haven't tested the auto-off feature yet, but I was pleased to hear the audible beep to alert you that the iron has reached the intended temperature after turning it on. A very thoughtful addition in my opinion.
My old Black and Decker iron was great and needed another and because of age and leak problems but the new one is just a great to use and does just as well even better, I don't like the fact that is shuts off so quick and don't like the length of the iron now because of stability of standing up without falling over so easy, but I've already tryed other irons that were new before ordering the same kind of iron so I guess I'll get use to the other stuff and be more careful that I don't knock it over. The steam is wonderful.......
When I needed to replace my 24 year old Black and Decker iron I went to Consumer Reports for a recommendation. They were right on when they said the new Black and Decker Digital Advantage was a best buy. I make banners for my church using Heat 'n Bond, so an iron with good heat control is a must. Also love the automatic shut-off feature for when I get busy on another part of the project. This was my first time ordering through WalMart online and having the product delivered without shipping charges to my local store. It takes a few days, but the convenience and lower cost were well worth it. I'll definitely order this way again.
I was very happy with the iron. It does a great job for my needs. It is very smart and has many nice features.
The iron does not steam well. It also shuts off while you are ironing. Doesn't heat like it should. I was very disappointed. I could have bought a Rowenta for the same price. This is the second Black and Decker iron that I have purchased and they were both terrible. NEVER again.
I gave this one a try because it said "nonstick" sole plate when in fact it's "stainless steel." I returned it because I and my mother had previously tried other Black & Decker stainless steel digital irons. They were horrible. Starch caked up so easily, that it was a chore to iron even a few pieces because you'd need to have a damp cloth next to you, and every few minutes or so, you'd need to rub the iron on the cloth to remove the starch build up. I'm not interested in stainless steel sole plates after being constantly frustrated with the cleanup. I prefer a good quality nonstick with a high amount of watts. Note: It would be good if this website listed the amount of watts, amps, etc. on items. I like to use this info to compare output with pricing. Also, correct the item description of this iron. It's not "nonstick".
The first time I used this iron I became very dissatisfied with it because it would only let me iron about three garments before it would shut itself off. I tried giving it a little shake as suggested in the information phamplet to make sure it was reading that I was using it, but still got the same results. While ironing the third piece it would shut itself off. Returned it to the store the next day.
