Brew Rite Cleaner is the best coffee maker cleaner on the market. The product label says that this cleaner contains sodium carbonate. According to the official MSDS for this product, it contains only 50% sodium carbonate and smaller amounts of sodium tripolyphosphate and sodium perborate tetrahydrate. All are considered "Hazardous Components", so be sure not to inhale the dust or be sure to wash your skin if you get the powder on it. The instructions say to use one tablespoon of Brew Rite Cleaner thoroughly dissolved in four cups of water. That is fine for full size coffee makers. But I have the Hamilton Beach Personal Cup Stay or Go POD Brewer - Model 49993. Since this model brews only one cup of coffee at a time, you have to reduce the amount of Brew Rite Cleaner used down to 3/4 teaspoons per one 8 ounce cup of water. When using the cleaner, it is best to run the coffee brewer with the cleaning solution only HALF WAY then unplug the brewer and wait one hour. Then plug your brewer back in and finish the brew cycle. After cleaning, you MUST run three additional WATER ONLY brew cycles to thoroughly flush the cleaner out of the brewer. Most coffee maker instruction manuals say to clean your brewer with a 50/50 vinegar/water solution about once every 3 months. DON"T USE VINEGAR! It leaves a very unpleasant aftertaste even after flushing the brewer with three water only cycles. I hope that this information has helped you. I would highly recommend Brew Rite Cleaner over all the other brand coffee cleaners on the market. It's the absolute best coffee cleaner made.
I have a coffee maker that I think has never been cleaned and was the pot dirty after the cleaning procedure. Now the coffee tastes so much better and I can really taste it.
I followed the instructions and ran it through my drip coffee maker. Seemed to do a little cleaning. Thought I would pour some of the mixture into my coffee thermos and see what happens. OMG. This stuff stripped all the brown residue out of my thermos and made it look brand new. What used to be a brown film all over the inside of my thermos was melted? away and my 2 year old thermos is shiny silver inside again and looks like brand new. This stuff works.
I bought this because of a coffee maker at work hadn't been cleaned out in ages and was making bad tasting coffee. I followed the mixing directions except I turned off the machine halfway thru to let the solution soak for about half an hour. Then turned it back on and let it finish the cycle. The second rinse flushed out all the white calcium buildup flakes and it was disgusting to know we were drinking out of that machine! Coffee now tastes much better and the machine brews a lot quicker! Everyone needs to buy this product to keep their coffee tasty!
This product worked very well for me with my Hamilton Beach no carafe of any kind my model is the one that will dispense directly into your coffee mug/travel cup. I followed directions exactly and then let my coffee maker run thru 4 times with the rinse of hot water. I also used a scrub brush after the 1 st actual cleaning once I rinsed the reservoir out and HAD NO RESIDUE OF CLEANER OR PARTICALS LEFT. It was ready to use again for coffee. It cleaned it GREAT! . It was my 1st time using cleaning product in this since I purchased it last fall. Probably about 6 mos!!!
I couldn't find Brew Rite in the local store so I ordered it on-line. It must have been somewhere ambiguous in the store because an hour later I received an email that my order was ready! Other than that, this stuff is a miracle. I know the basic ingredient is sodium bicarbonate but how ever they formulated it, the pots came out sparkling, I mean SPARKLING clean and bright! One note, be careful if you put this in a commercial unit. I tried cleaning out a Bunn VPR commercial unit and it took about 15 full pitchers of water before the water finally came clear. I've used vinegar, salt & ice, lemon juice, etc. in the pitchers but nothing really got them clean. I use vinegar in the brewer once a month and so it wasn't really dirty but I put 4 TBS of Brew Rite in a 64 oz. pitcher and got quite a lot of specks out of the unit. Just be careful to rinse and rinse again the next day before making coffee. Otherwise it won't taste very good.
This is a great product. My aluminum coffee pot was terribly stained and this took it all off in one soaking. It is easy to use; simple to prepare and takes a minute to get it ready. Then you go away and come back to a clean coffee pot. The cost is low; the results are great. Make coleslaw with the vinegar, use this instead to clean the pot and get the good coffee taste back.
I had misplaced an old formula for cleaning a coffee pot using a diluted solution of vinegar. I happened to be on Walmart's website and saw this product and ordered same. As soon as it arrived, I read the instructions and put it to work. As a "test" I put a coffee filter into the basket to see just how much junk I would collect as I couldn't even remember when I had cleaned the coffee brewer. After mixing the solution, and that is key, the powder MUST be mixed into a clear solution (and no solid chunks of the product can be poured into the coffee maker as they will block the lines,) the clear solution is then poured into the maker and "brewed." My coffee filter bottom was lined with all kinds of crud. It was obvious this product worked as promised and it was so easy I won't wait so long to clean out the pot again. Last note: to finish the process, run three more clean water brews to clear the coffee maker of any lingering product, and I recall I did that with the vinegar solution as well so it isn't adding work. Good stuff.
Our coffee maker was slowing down, found vinagar wasn't haviing much effect except stinking up the whole house! This works to clean out the coffee maker and speed up the brewing process. Follow the instructions and run 2 or 3 pots of water though after you use the Brew Right you will see the the particles that flushed out. The coffee taste better and brews faster.
The one star is for the unusable condition on delivery. The container was broken, likely due to rough handling in transit. The product itself, which I have used before, is excellent. I will purchase from another supermarket, which has it on the shelf, for close to the same price. I would recommend the product to others, but not on special order pickup at Walmart
