I purchased this fan as an exact replacement for one that had been in our shower for over 25 years. (I was very happy to find that it was still available!) Ours still worked, but was rusting out and so dirty that it wasn't drawing as well as it used to. It was easy to do on my own, and the new fan works beautifully and is much quieter.
Does the job, good value, and the reputation of Nutone is strong.

It's a high volume fan. No it's not the quietest but I don't believe it pretends to be. Mine was making a horrible racket and I expected to have to replace the motor fan assembly. However on removing the assembly for inspection the remains of an acorn fell out. I reassembled and that was the end if the noise. It's 14 years old and had an acorn rattling around in it for some time . Somehow it survived and is working like new

This fan is way too noisy. I contacted the installer. He said that's the way they are. I think it is out of balance.
We built our house in 2007, with one of these in each of two bathrooms. Both are pretty loud for fans. About a year ago the main bathroom fan started making a lot more noise, and when I took it apart, found that the little plastic clip that holds the fan wheel on the spindle was just gone, leaving the fan wheel to move up or down as it wanted to, and it eventually dropped low enough that it jammed. Now the second unit has done the same thing. Well out of warranty, but these things really should last longer.
This unit is nearly identical to the one I had before but is nosier due to a fan vibration that causes the box / housing to rattle. Efforts to pack vinyl strips and swatches at possible housing rattle points do not help. It seems the quality of this model is sub-par or it may be a flaw in just this particular unit. I wonder if the fan cylinder is slightly off center with its spindle shaft. I doubt there is any recourse to remedy this problem since I installed it myself.
We did a major bathroom remodel a few years ago and the contractor bought this model because it fit in the existing cut out over the shower. Unfortunately, it was a step backward in terms of noise level. The fan is very loud and the glass cover rattles, at times sounding like a machine gun. We've tried foam and other adjustments, but they all prove temporary. The cut-out size is unique, making replacement with another fan difficult. It does do its job though. Wish they made a quieter model.
I am an electrician full time for myself. These fans would best suit commercial and industrial work areas where you have machinery already running. Nursing homes to perhaps keep people awake in the bathroom. But for your home; only if you want to discourage usage of your restroom. The lighting only works well if you have other lights on at the same time.
