I HAVE BEEN USING THE HL-L 8350CDW FOR ABOUT SIX WEEKS NOW AND AM COMPLETELY SATISFIED. IN PARTICULAR, THE QUALITY OF COLOR PICTURE PRINTOUT IS VERY GOOD: BETTER THAN ANTICIPATED. THE DUPLEXER WORKS FLAWLESSLY. TWO SIDED BOOKLET PRINTOUT IS VERY USEFU. OVERALL AOK TO DATE!
I've been using this printer for a couple of weeks. The wireless setup was very easy. We have multiple laptops with Win 7 and 8.1 that all connected fine. I was able to program the printer to work with a Unix system by emulating HP with PCL6 settings. It switches between this and windowed printing automatically. Very pleased.
Back in the 1990s, we would buy Brother products because they were cheap and we did not expect long life from them. A few years ago, I bought my wife a laser printer and, once we discovered how to over-rule the incessant earlier "toner low" warning, we came to appreciate the quality of the printer so much that we bought her a second one later. I bought an HP color laser about five years ago and was very disappointed in it. It was somewhat pricey, was loud and toner was expensive I much prefer the Brother HL-3850 CDW for color laser printing over the HP. The Brother HL-8350CDW offers great quality prints and, once we finally figured out to install the drivers for Windows 10, has turned out to as speedy as we expected it to be. I would recommend it and would have no hesitation in buying a latter model when we need one.
Great price great machine
It's fast, cheap, doesn't use a lot of power or use a lot of consumables. Text is crisp, pages come out rapidly & in rapid succession. All in all a very capable SOHO printer. Two significant issues are: wireless LAN configuration & photo printing. I'll start with the easier: photo printing. It's terrible. Extraordinarily bad. It's not the resolution or anything like that, the printer is just bad at it. Printed photos look awful no matter what. Wireless LAN. The configuration is a total pain, regardless of what method you follow, and none of them are convenient. You can use the wizard, which only works marginally, you can do it manually, which takes forever, or you can use the assistant (the Brother recommended method) which involves connecting the printer to a PC with a USB cable just to configure the printer. That's how bad the built-in configuration is, that Brother recommends you not even use it. Change Wifi SSIDs? Should be simple. Not with this machine. Plus, regardless of what method you use, the printer may, or may not, actually connect even if all your settings are correct. To top it off, it occasionally just and goes & forgets its configuration for no reason, causing you to go through the misery again.
Impressive printer for my home probably better suited for heavy use but I wanted lifetime support and I'm done with printer cartridges drying up.
Printer functions well, except for our DSL often goes on and off and when this happens a new iPA address is issued and our printer does not, function until, you go through the steps to assign new IPA pain....and not easy to do. I would recommend not going with wireless. No way to hard wire this printer or I would!
Have had a small Brother printer in our office for over 10 years. It did not want to work with our Mac very well so decided it was time for a new one. Did a lot of research and chose to stick with Brother and go to color as well as black and white. We ordered this printer when it was on sale at Costco. Also ordered the color toner cartridges at the same time. Got the printer and proceeded to set it up. It was a little difficult to understand unless you are a "computer person". That being said, we did get it set up to the wifi and proceeded to print... 1. It prints s l o w -- It will print a page. Then think about it. Then print the second page. Then think about it. We go to print 5 pages of work orders and we wait for them to print while we stand at the printer. Major bummer here as our old little machine was way faster. 2. Color. If you want to call it color. Extremely muted from the Brother cartridges, I would hate to see the color from the off brands. Basically not useable. We printed, in color, our employee manual with a HP printer. (looking at hooking back up that one and biting down on the cost of the ink packets!) Color is bold, crisp, and clean. We change policies occasionally and have to reprint a page to go in our manual, but we can't with this Brother machine. Looks like we decided to go all pastel! Come to think about it, that is what the color reminds me of; all pastel. 3. Shopping for a printer, again, and then returning all of this to Costco.
We purchased this printer a little over a year ago when it first came out and have not been happy. The printers rubber parts on the inside are melted which causes the paper to be warped and melted when it comes out. It also smells like burning tires when used. We are a fairly large medical practice and use several different brands of printers. When I called for help I was told I was out of luck since I did not have the receipt. Even though the printer was just released in 2014. We spend about $1000 a month in ink and all of my printer companies have replaced parts at no charge because they understand that the ink is where the money is made and they do not want the customer to move to a different brand. Brother has not figured that out yet!
We purchased this printer three months ago and so far have spent over $2000 on toner replacements. The cyan and magenta cartridges, for instance, have required 13 replacements each, even though the printer has not printed more than 8000 total pages (across all replacements) with either color. At this point we have replaced the printer with one that is not as costly to maintain. When we requested a refund from Brother for the cost of the printer, they would not work with us and denied our request. We do not recommend purchasing this printer.
