I bought this because my other brother finally came to its demise after I smashed it with my fist (the paper dock ajar switch broke for the third time in the middle of printing). I never thought of a color laser/led printer before until I saw this on display at Office Max. I talked to the sales clerk, and after seeing the quality of color prints brothers can print, I decided to purchase the HL-3170CDW. However, they could not find it in the back stock so they sold me this one at the same price. Oh Boy! This printer is overkill for home use, but I also do a lot of printing because I hate reading on a screen. I went with color because its so much cheaper for photos than the store, and ink jet. This printer will print full size pictures 8.5x11 in such high quality, you will not notice it was printed by a brother laser! After doing almost 200 color prints tweaking the color settings in Windows, and also most taking it back to Office Max, I finally was able to print professional quality pictures. I found that there were two things that made the first prints horrible; the hp laser photo paper I was using, and Windows color profiler. To get the best color prints I recommend the following: Remove any and all color profiles for this device in Windows. Do not use laser photo paper. Read and reread the manual. Use Hammermill Color Copy Digital 28lbs, White 100 Set almost every option on the printer to automatic. In Windows printing preferences- Tick all options in color calibration, Do Not use any improve print output options, set media to thick, quality to fine, color to color, document type to photo or manual (in manual, tick vivid and enhance black printing - all others unticked). Use a HIGH QUALITY photo to print! Your cell phone's 14 mp camera does not take the same quality photo as a 14 mp Nikon. This was also something I notice when printing at larger sizes. The hardest thing for any printer to print is gradient. When you use a lower quality, or slightly blurred picture, the printed picture can look worse because the printer is trying to do its best to print a gradient. It is much easier for the printer to blend colors of lower ratio. BEFORE PRINTING, CLOSE PRINTER PREFERENCES! I can't tell you how frustrating it was to find that by leaving this open, and then printing, the changes I were making were not taking effect as default even after clicking apply, until I closed the printer preferences window The oddest thing I found that dramatically effects the quality of the print the most was the type, sheen, and thickness of paper, and the the media type selection in printing preferences. If you mess around with just the media type, you will see what I mean. Well, I hope this helps someone. I spent hours, and a lot of ink and paper figuring this out, but it was worth it!
I am a small business owner and a serious horseplayer. When they stopped selling forms in this town I realized I needed a work horse printer. But not get killed in costs which I have been for years. I researched this for about a week and this particular printer has it all for me. Laser, toner, color, high output, speed, cost effectiveness. And for the price, unless you are a company with staff, it simply cannot be beat anywhere or by anybody. I love my Brother printer!
Enjoying the 8250, which I bought after attempting to get an HP M451 working for several days. Quality on the Brother is very good, although it would have been good to get a wireless capable unit for the same as I paid. Did contact tech support, and without much of a wait, got the information I needed. So far, so good; it's NOT really noisy, although it makes some noise when printing.
So far, it works very well and I have changed the black toner twice. Unfortunately found out that even if I did not use the colors, the printer still stops, signaling that the color toners are low. However, by resetting them it continues well... Will see how long this will go.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The printer has wifi connection I can easily print things over from my laptop or phone quick and easy! I changed the ink filter and now it leaves a streak of black ink on my left hand side of the pages something I need to do research on to fix!
This is the first color leaser printer that we had purchased for the company and we been searching for the best fit. We found that Brother do have the most fit for used and the price is reasonable for us. i will recommend this product if any other people needed.
I bought this printer to replace a Brother HL 4040CDN which became sick. This printer cost as much as it would to fix the 4040. The 8250 printer works great right out of the box. Had no problems connecting it to the network. I find this printer to be very quite and when a print goes to the printer it prints very quickly. So far the Brother quality has been there, My big concern is how long the toner last and what the replacement toner will cost.
This has been the worst printer i've ever owned (my Brother B&W is the best). I cannot get more than 30 pages of color without having a dirty pages, smears, missing color... it's just the most unreliable print system. I even use the most expensive large Brother cartridges... nothing... it's just a bad product.
Had the printer for 6 months with no issues. Good B&W and color images. Then the built-in network card failed only after 6 months of light use. Very disappointing!!!. After having to be on the chat line for an hour they finally decided to replace the printer. But with a re manufactured model which in my mind is wrong, should be new. Anyway the replacement unit arrive and it was defective. Wow is all I can say. Never again!!
Had a nice Brother color laser printer so picked up a new one when the old one died. Unfortunately, this one goes to sleep and doesn't wake up for print jobs. I use it on an iMac 27 with OS X 10.9 and it does not print most of the time. Always have to turn it off then back on and then it might print. Getting tired of reloading print drivers and searching for solutions for something that should work when you plug it in. Stay away Apple users.
