Love my Brother SE400!

This little machine far exceeded my expectations! I wanted to do small embroidery work, like initials, or a small logo - it does these well, and so much more. I absolutely love the download feature. I have purchased designs, and am thrilled with the detail. This machine is easy to use. I use SimThread to embroider.

I love my new Brother Sewing and Embroidery Machine. It is super easy to use. I love that it threads the needle automatically. and has a screen that shows you step by step how to use many of the features. I haven't used the embroidery yet. Look forward to learning. I am including a picture of an Adult Bib that I made as my first project on this machine.

I bought this machine 1 1/2 yrs ago when my daughter was expecting her first baby. I never stop using it! Have made book bags, baby clothes, burp cloths, baby blankets, soft books, decorated kitchen towels and my bathrobes. I made pillows with deer and bobcat designs for my grandson, and am working on a collage of fish and flies for him. I have so many projects in my head! It is easy to use, never have any problems. Recommended it to my sister who wants to start monograming. Explained the limits on the size of designs, but I really have no need for 5x7 designs. The 4x4 is large enough for what I do. My one question: Why is it an extra 4MB memory card sells for over $200 but I can buy the PED-basic system (again) and get an included memory card for under $100. Something here does not make sense. The machine itself is fantastic and I would recommend it and buy another one myself.

I have had this machine for a few weeks. I am a complete newby when it comes to embroidery machines. I only bought it to do the monogramming on the baby blankets I've been making because I was sick of having a friend do it for me. It took me about an hour to get started going. With some practice, I am getting pretty good. The size of the font is the only limitation- if I want to have it be very big, then it either has to be a short name, or I have to get more comfortable with breaking it up- which can be done with practice. I've about got it figured out, I think. between the quick start guide and the instruction manual, it's got all the info you need. I have not used it for sewing, but the features are fantastic and I have read nothing but good reviews on the sewing feature. Overall, 5 stars. Great product for the price.

This sewing machine was the best present that I ever gave to myself. It exceeds my expectations. I have already out grown the hoop size of 4 X 4 for applique and embroidery, but I knew that would happen and I purchased this with eyes open to the fact. Point is, for the money...this machine can't be beat. Not only is the embroidery and applique function so easy and so fun, the regular sewing stitches and capabilites are making me look SOOOOO good!

I am a novice sewer and I had been using an old machine before upgrading to this. What a difference!! All of the sewing functions are easy... automatic threader, easy bobbin winding and placement, etc. On top of a great little sewing machine, you get an embroidery machine, too! The two towel photos I uploaded were created with designs included in the machine. I also purchased the accessory that allows you to download any .pes design onto your computer and then place it on a card that inserts into the machine. There are limitless possibilities and lots of free designs available online. I have had a few issues with embroidery jamming, but I've figured out that you really must use the correct type of needle, a new needle, and the correct stabilizer for every fabric. I highly recommend this machine for any beginner to advanced sewer, as well as beginner machine embrioderers.

Love Making Patches!

This machine is wonderful! I am the type of person who does a ton of online research before buying something, especially an expensive something. After all of my research, I bought the Brother SE400 because this machine had the highest overall ratings and there are TONS of YouTube tutorials and published material regarding this specific machine. That helps a lot when you have a question about a certain button or a funny quirk the machine has; someone somewhere will have made a video about it. I've had this machine since early December and it is now December 31st. When I first got the machine, I had basic sewing knowledge from using my mother's sewing machine from high school. Now, I have an online shop where I sell service dog patches (I have a *real* mobility service dog named Tater-Tot) that I make on the Brother SE400. You can take it right out of the box and be embroidering or sewing an hour later. The hard part is wanting to make something very custom. In most cases, you could just buy an embroidery image off of the internet and put it right into the machine (which connects like a flash drive to both Mac and PC by the way) but with something like patches that need custom text and custom stitching, you would need an embroidery program to do. But that's pretty out of the range of ordinary use. The lettering built-in on the machine will let you type in whatever you want and embroider it. Obviously, I like the machine a lot so instead of listening to me ramble on longer I'll just make a list of pros and cons: Pros: - Cuts your string for you (eliminates unnecessary string waste by having to pull the piece out and cut the bobbin and top thread) - The machine will stop sewing if there is a problem with the top thread, if the bobbin thread is about to run out, or other issue - The average person could embroider anything they want without ever having to buy an embroidery program - Easy to string - Easy to wind bobbins - Pretty much everything is automated, even the back stitch - Excellent computer connectivity that doesn't require any sort of software -Lightweight - The embroidery hoop is awesomely durable. I've ironed on it a gazillion times and even burnt it with a lighter, sort of on accident, and it doesn't have a mark on it. Cons: - You REALLY need to read the instruction manual front to back and then keep it handy to reference. There is a trouble shooting guide in the back that has been a life saver. The machine knows what it's doing, the user doesn't. Any problem you're going to run into is 100% fixable with proper knowledge. - Tension comes way too high. Before embroidering, there is a little dial at the top of the machine that needs to go WAY down before you get a good image. - The images on the touchscreen are weirdly non-descriptive. You need to watch a video or read the manual to figure out what half of them do. Check out some of the patches I've made! I am posting this review as part of my entry in Walmart's Holiday Sewing Contest

I love this machine. It worked well right out of the box. It tells you when the bobbin thread is getting low, and it lifts the presser foot and cuts the thread for you. It's insane. I connected it to my computer and copied a Superman design to the sewing machine. I then embroidered a hat with a really fun Superman emblem. I also made a couple Superman patches and have sewn them on a messenger bag. You can do so many thinks with this machine. It's light, takes up so little room. It's an affordable, fun, creative addition to my craft area.

I bought the se 400 because it threads the needle with a touch of a button and it works. I have never done embroidery so was a bit intimidated by it. I made a drawstring bag for my little granddaughters and put their names on each. It was easy. Filled them up with goodies and waiting to give them to each one
