This bookshelf is a great bargain for the money. The cherry finish is elegant, it was somewhat easy to assemble, is very sturdy, and meets all of my expectations. I purchased it for my son's room (4 year old) and I am very pleased with the selection. One suggestion: I purchased it site to store and unfortuneately we didn't open the boxes before bringing it home and one little piece of the trim was damaged. We were able to fix it with a wood color kit and it is not obvious at all. Great deal!
Great value for the price paid
Very sturdy and attractive.
We purchased this bookcase because we had piles of book clutter but at the time didn't have money to spend a fortune for a piece of furniture. We chose the site to store option to save shipping costs, which is a fantastic option. Easy and very courteous service. Relatively easy to assemble though the final stages it is helpful to have a second person to help. The appearance is beautiful. I did polish it with Pledge before putting books on it. The finish and look of the bookcase even perfectly matches our existing furniture which is pricey, high quality furniture. Looking at it now in our room, it looks more expensive than it was. It is sturdy and so far, the shelves have not shifted or tried to flip or anything. There is ample room on the middle fixed shelf to stand up full-size notebooks. Other shelves are adjustable, so that too is a great feature. One negative about this item; the backing is only a sheet of thin cardboard-like material with wood finish on the side that shows. It is folded to fit in the box so putting it on during assembly is tricky. That certainly is not any reason to avoid this bookcase though. It's beautiful, functional, does not look cheap or low quality, and the price is right!
It took me longer time to put it together then I thought. In the long run... This book shelf looks very richy and is sturdy. I have no regret so far.
This is a really good looking bookshelf. The assembly is not tight and it sways a bit. Shelf load limit is only 30 pounds. I need to drill another set of holes for lower shelf since it is not high enough for binders and the bottom is the only place sturdy enough to put them
Well designed but poorly made. Middle shelf snapped as I was moving it. Its what you expect with a press-wood bookshelf.
I am not someone who expects everything to be super easy and arrive perfectly, but there were some things that were kind of ridiculous in the assembly. There were pieces with the same letters on them, meaning to me that they were absolutely the same and interchangeable, but this was not true. And it was obvious that this piece had been in the warehouse for a long time and probably moved a few times because there were a few places there the finish had chipped off. Only one of those places was visible after assembly. The main issues I had with it were the instructions and piece labelling, which could use some upgrading in a major way. Put the decorations on last! Because you might have put some clips on backwards and it won't assemble. You'll have to switch them around, which is doable, just a pain.
I normally buy the cheapest bookshelves I can find just to be functional for me. But, this time I decided to spend the extra money so I could upgrade and have something really pretty too. This shelf is pretty, but I spent 4 times more on this shelf than I spent on my last bookshelf. The quality of this shelf is not good enough to be worth 4 times more money. I guess I was just expecting more.
Assembly can be done by one person but it is more time consuming and having a second person to assist in holding pieces together as the other inserts screws, fastenings, etc. would be preferable. Regarding the aesthetics of this piece, it's nice looking, there were no scratches/blemishes on the shelves, side-panels, etc. However, it was my experience that not all panels abutted or met up completely resulting in slight seperation or gapping particularly between the bottom /horizontal segment of the bookcase with the side panels. This is not overly obvious unless one takes a very close look. Regarding stability, even with 3 shelves of books the case still sways slightly with maual pressure/ pushing into it. I believe this is partly due to the somewhat shallow length of the case. The adjustable shelves have only a 30 lb. holding capacity, so if you have heavy textbooks, they would have to be placed in the bottom most fixed shelf. I probably would not buy this case again and would go for one with heavier shelf capacity and somewhat deeper width.
