I'll be honest -- at first this product gave me fits and would not work. Then I broke down and followed the instructions, which are included -- along with the necessary drivers -- in a mini CD included in the product (it's glued between the cardboard inside the clamshell). Once I followed the instructions for installation, this cable worked like a top. I have an XP computer that it's running on now. I also have a Vista and a Windows 7 machine I have not tried it on yet, but there are no vista or win 7 drivers with the product. I recommend using this with windows XP, nothing newer than that, at least until other drivers are available.
I bought this cable a few weeks ago before it jumped up $4, but I would still get it at this price as I hated to junk my faithful Laser 5 when I switched to a laptop. Anyone wanting to keep older printers (and I don't see why not!) should get this if their laptop doesn't have the USB connections.
This product turns a USB port into a parallel port and works fine once you get it installed right. It says plug & play, but there is more to it than that. The cable comes with a mini CD that tells you how to install it, and if you don't follow the directions, it won't work.
The product worked fine after I went to their website (found through Google) and downloaded the required drivers. The documentation with the product did not provide any direction that this needed to be done.
There is a cd-rom incased in cardboard that has the drivers for the cable. I missed it, at first. Drivers must be installed first. Although the connection functions, my HP Laserjet 1100 does not have full functionality b/c there are no drivers compatible with my Win7-64 computer from HP.
i bought this because i got a new computer. however my printer has a parallel hook-up. so i got home hooked it up and still don't have a printer. for some reason my computer won't read the signal or download a driver. the cable does what it was bought for but changes the signal so that the devices can't read each other. note: hp computer, hp printer still won't work
I needed this to mimic a parallel port for a software parallel port key to enable use of the software. It didn't work for this application. It may work to communicate with a printer, but I don't need that. Also, instructions were primitive, the manufacturer's website was difficult to locate, and the manufacturer's website had no useful information to resolve my problem. Basically, it was money thrown away.
This product will not work with Vista.
The cable was to connect a parallel printer through a usb port. The cable did not work at all. I email the technical support and have never heard back. I returned the item for a refund.
I purchased this product from the description. If I had read the forums from the site, I would have realized that it would not work for me. The description fails to tell you that the software is not cerified and that you would have to reboot in special mode each time you wanted to use the printer. NOT acceptable. I definitely would not recommend this item. I returned it after checking all resources available to me.
