I own an external hard drive that I use to back-up pictures. As a photographer, I have up to 8 gig's to back-up on a good weekend…well, my back-up died! Data recovery started @ $700! I purchased this “docking station” for hard drives and accomplished the task for around $30. I'm thrilled that I found this product and saved approx. $670! A life time warranty was an additional benefit.
Excellent product. Cheaper than the one with the media slots in the front. Super high speed when attached with eSATA instead of USB (both available on this model). I use this in LINUX and Windows to back up hard drives removed from customer computers. Nice stable base and convenient power adapter.
My desktop computer went down and I knew it was not because of the hard drive. This plugged right into my laptop and could easily access all the info from my hard drive that I took out of my desktop. The first time using it, it was a little slow, but after that it's just like using an external hard drive. Super easy to use.
I should have checked Cables Unlimited website before buying this device. It's rated 1 out of 5 on the site. I discovered that many of the people there had the same problem that I had. My NEW laptop would not recognize the hard drive but would recognize the drive dock and USB connection. None of the suggestions that Cables Unlimited gave helped in any way. I will be returning this item.
