Living in a camper that had a broken water heater that would cost over $500 to replace. I found this while looking for something called a heat stick that we could stick in the water tank to heat up water. Never found the stick, but I found this and researched and read reviews. $150 for the product with shipping. Hubby hooked it up to the camper using the connections that were used for the hot water heater. Do not install in camper, it needs ventilation!!!! He just brought the connections out of the camper to the product. We have had it for a few weeks and everything seems to work great so far. We shower, clean and do dishes daily and it works great every time. Great product and great value.
this was a purchase for an off-the-grid cabin. how impressive! my wife's experience (and mine as well) was enhanced significantly with this addition. we love our bath house even more now.
The Camp Chef Triton actually works and does what it claims to do. This is very refreshing when you look at all the hype from other product that never work as expected. The Camp Chef exceeds. My well water is 65 degrees but I have no problems getting hot water instantly. The one thing I did not realize was that it can not be mounted on a wooden wall or any wall made from a combustible product. I over came the problem by attaching a non-combustible material on the wall and then mounted the water heater. This is such a remarkable product I don'the understand why it is not marketed more widely.
Triton hot water heater on demand is exactly what we needed. It is affordable, small, and keeps running hot water until you run out of water supply. It is great for many things -we especially like it for a hot shower-it's great for groups of people that need to shower and the hot water tank at the lake house runs empty!
We have purchased several Triton 5Ls for our ranch - it reliably provides adjustable on- demand heat via a propane source. Both the flame intensity & the water flow can be adjusted to modify the water temperature. In the winter, when the water is much colder, you can decrease the water flow in conjunction with a maximum flame to provide a very hot shower, even if it's snowing outside. However, don't let the unit freeze without draining the water first - we've broken two this way with temps only as low as 25F. In the hot summer, we often disconnect the propane and let ambient water run through the system. This is a well made Chinese product that we do use in indoors since a 15 minute cutoff is embedded in the unit, but it does produce CO, so ventilation is recommended.
We have two (2) of these for our summer rentals and they have been working great for two summers. Plenty of heating power for 55F water coming from our well. Important to change the batteries every year. We also have the 10L love it (though it uses batteries faster and heats more than we need for summer guests, so it is our backup).
This is a replacement at our camp site for another similar make (by a different company) that wore out after 15 years of use. We find this one operates much better than the older one. We do suggest that you buy an inexpensive gas gauge for the propane tank so you don't run out of gas in the middle of a shower.
I purchased the heater to accommodate warm showers at our fish camp in south La. i was pleased to learn that the unit comes with an adapter so a garden hose can be connected for water output, as an alternative to the provided shower head. This allows a direct feed to the camper and the existing plumbing can be used for a shower. I am happy with the product for the price and anticipate a lot of use.
It's not bad works well. The only thing is Im not sure I'm getting enough water pressure or enough water because it gets extremely hot and I don't know how to fix that.
This is the second unit like this I have purchased. Not a bad unit for the price. Some things to remember about a on demand water heater like this one. If you plan on using it at a remote campsite, you will need to provide sufficient water pressure for unit to operate. Gravity feed water will not give unit enough pressure to work. I use a Flojet 12 volt 3 GPM on demand pump and it works great. Place unit out of the wind as much as possible. The slightest wind on unit will cause it to shut off. During colder days amount and temperature of water will not be as high. Keep battery compartment with the 2 D cells clean and dry. Do not allow debris like leaves and so forth to drop in from the top of unit. They will clog the burners and it will have to taken apart to blow debris out. Very important, during freezing conditions make sure unit is drained of water or leftover water in unit will freeze expand and crack heat exchanger unit. This is why it is the second unit I have purchased. Not the units fault my fault for not draining water from unit during a freeze.
