Language Arts 4 Today, by Carson Dellosa, is a great resource when working with the Common Core in Kindergarten. This resource allows teachers to practice the Common Core Standards in just minutes a day. The book is organized by weeks and by days. I plan to start the year by completing the activities as a whole group on the interactive white board. Each selection includes a paragraph followed by comprehension questions. I am excited to see my students develop their comprehension skills over the course of the school year!
Common Core Language Arts 4 Today is a quick, easy way to get more common core into your curriculum. There are daily practice and weekly assessments that you could use for centers and learning stations, warm-up or early finishers. On each assessment the common core standards are wrote so you know what standards you are teaching.
This workbook contains everything you will need for the year! It's amazing how they were able to coincide all of common core standards with monthly themes and plan the academic calendar for the year. The teacher literally does not have to worry about anything. It is all aligned there for you to use. It even has assessments that are included at the end of the units. I love that they are reproducible and can be used over and over as needed. I think using my Elmo overhead with students at the beginning of the year will be the stepping stone in using this activity; but as the year progresses, the students should be able to do this independently.
This book has 40 weeks of activities that is broken up into daily activities for each week. I would wait a little in the year to do this with my kinders. (You couldn't wait too long because the activities will relate to different seasons.) I love how it provides a matrix to show you which standard is covered by the activity. It also includes an answer key in the back as well.
This book contains 40 weeks of activities. Each week is divided into 5 separate daily activities. The fifth activity each week is an assessment of that week's activities. These activities would be great to use daily bellwork or as a warm-up activity at the beginning of the language arts block. Some teacher direction would be necessary at the beginning of the school year but as the year progresses, the activities could be completed independently.
Language Arts 4 Today includes four short practice exercises and one assessment each week for forty weeks. Each exercise includes a simple paragraph and three to four comprehension questions. Depending on the students you work with, you could use this as morning work, for students who finish early, or even orally as a whole group activity. The book includes a page of tips on how to build a reading environment and a page of writing strategies. I love the layout of this book. Each page is labeled with the week number and each activity is labeled with the day students will complete it. These daily activities will help students grow to become better readers and writers.
Well, Carson –Dellosa has done it again! I taught 2nd grade for years and used a daily review then. When I moved to kindergarten , I couldn't find one that was worthwhile and then can common core… still couldn't find one! Now I have! Common Core Language Arts 4 Today – Daily Skill Practice is it! In one simple book I have 40 weeks of reviews and assessments! The quick and easy to read introduction explains how it is all set up. They even have a quick guide to “Building a Reading Environment” and writing strategies. Good ideas – most we all know, but never hurt to hear them again! Then there is the common core matrix! Oh, yes they did! They crossed-referenced all the standards and the weekly reviews! Ka-ching! One less thing we have to do! There are three questions for each day – four days on one page! On the back is the end of week assessment! This will save paper! Oh wait! Did I mention it is reproducible?? Now I am a little concerned that in the beginning the kids might have some trouble reading and following along, but… just like all things in kindergarten – it's a teach and learn activity! I'm thinking it would be nice to scan in and show with the projector on the big screen. We are always working on listening and following directions in the beginning of the year anyway. The weeks also follow the school year - holidays in order – September/Fall, pumpkins, Thanksgiving, Christmas/Hanukkah, winter, Valentine's, etc. It's great – no thinking required! I mean – no planning required! Haha there is an answer key too – just in case it's the end of the day and you don't want to think! I'm thinking this would be great to use for morning work or even as a start to guided reading groups. This should be a great resource! One more thing – there is a math version too! Oh my – a shopping trip is in the future! Way to go C-D!
If you are looking for a quick and easy way to add more common core into your curriculum, this book is the answer you've been looking for! Language Arts 4 Today and Math 4 Today are available for grades K-5. Each week students will answer 12 Language Arts or Math questions over a 4-day period. Students will complete a short assessment on the last day of the week. Spend just 10 minutes a day reinforcing the common core state standards. It would be perfect for a morning warm-up or end of the day wrap-up.
I like how this book is set up into weeks and then days. But, then my only complaint is it is kind of busy for kindergarten students at the beginning of the year. I think once they get the concept it will be very easy for students to follow. Kindergarteners have such difficulty following things at the beginning of the school year. I do think it will become easy for students as the year progresses. Each week has 4 problems and then an assessment for the 5th day. I love that on the back it provides the standards covered during that week's worksheet. Excited to try this at the beginning of my phonics/literacy instruction this school year!
