I was very impressed with this radio, especially for the price. I like the compact design as my car does not have a lot of space. Would buy another for my other car.
I’ve had four of these in various vehicles and because the price is so good I just left them in the vehicles I’ve sold. This is a monster of a little radio with THE RIGHT ANTENNA AND SETUP. Negative reviews like smoking, no range etc is user error in my opinion. Buy one, install and tune correctly and way you go.....
This is a small, basic CB radio that does its job extremely well. The receiver is very sensitive. The output with the stock microphone is very good. The squelch functions well. The controls are well laid out. The knob that protrudes the most is the squelch knob which is the knob you need to use the most. You can adjust the squelch without even looking at the radio. I live and drive around town about two miles from the freeway and like to provide truckers local information. Whenever I do they respond and give me good audio reports. One thing that contributes to my good signal is that my mag-mount is centered on the roof of my mini-van. I have the radio mounted against the center console so that the speaker (at the bottom of the unit) fires towards me. But the speaker is clear and loud and would provide good audio even if it were facing downward. This is an AM-only unit. It does not have a clarifier (on AM that is not needed), and it does not have a scanning function. It also does not have weather radio reception built in. It is a small unit. The microphone is relatively big and comfortable in the hand. It feels quite solid. It is an excellent basic CB radio.
I got this a few weeks ago sounds and works really great in my truck. But I have had to buy Mic's for it because they all seem to die but they are brand new so I don't know how or why they wouldn't work being new but other then that great radio!!!
Disappointed that my first review wasn't posted but, I came back to correct myself. The microphone was wired correctly but the pin out in the manual is incorrect for this radio. This makes troubleshooting or adding an after market microphone difficult. On the bench the radio appears to work as advertise so, my best guess for bad output audio on transmit is lack of grounding when using a magnetic mount antenna. R&D should investigate this and consider a ground terminal on the chassis or chassis ground via the negative lead using an isolation diode. Overall design good but, it is not a plug and play radio.
I had a cobra CB 20 years ago, I used it as I do now for personal use. I synced this unit in almost immediately. Picked up reception immediately. I enjoyed my CB back then and I know that I will enjoy it again after all these years. Its amazing what goes around , comes around. Cobra you have done it again, little box that carries a big bang for the buck.
it took a bit to get it to send and receive...found out I needed a ground on my antenna mount-due to 2016 f150-aluminum body..then my rf gain was turned all the way up....now it works great...
I bought the radio at a truck stop because I felt the need to communicate with other vehicles while crossing the mountains in the winter out west. Nobody seem to want to talk to me not even a simple radio check. After being insulted on the air for sounding like I need dental work I waited to troubleshoot after the trip. Problem is a microphone wired incorrectly at the plug. Ground on audio high, audio high on ground, rx on tx pin and tx on rx pin. Even a color blind person should have been able to put the shield on the right pin. Two stars because audio receive is great out of the box but clear transmit is a must for two-way communication.
I bought this radio as I needed a new one for my truck ad since i dont have alot of money to buy the one I really wanted ( the 25 ltd which is the same one I had) and being that my family has been using cobras for years I got this one. I took it out of the box attached my mic, antennas and connected it to power. it turned on but wont transmit, I receive great but no matter what it will not transmit after buying new mic it still wont transmit and now just stays in my truck and is useless. I called cobra twice but will not do anything about it. I am very disappointed and the fact that my uncle has the same one in his truck that works fine makes me think this one is just a bad cb. but hey you get what you pay for when you cant afford a better one.
Received this as a gift....was in box brand new...hooked it up and no volume what so ever...no sales slip so stuck with this
