I've been using this product for ten years. I have a 40X60' tarp made into a tent with a peak at 16' that's stayed in place over two RVs 16 months now, through repeated wind storms. The sides are screwed down, but everywhere I need extra control, to tie off in the trees or connect edges, is still intact, tied in half a bow... like for your tennis shoes! Very soft and pliable, yet strong and dependable.
Can be utilized for numerous task. Great for camping
Useful for light loads.
Very good and strong, waterproof
I bought this product to use while camping. I used it to hang clothes from and it worked just fine. One never has enough cord when camping. :)
I was building a 10'x10' storage building with the tall barn style roof from a do it yourself building kit from Lowe's last summer. I'm a retired machinist, do to a back and neck injury years ago, so its slow going for me on a job like this. So I bought a large blue tarp to cover my work and a couple packages of this cord to tie the tarp down with so I could cover my work over night to protect the wood from the late evening thunderstorms we get in the late summer. This stuff didn't work very well. Its been made with a very loose braid and is a bit fuzzy so it tends to pick up every little sticker, stick, goat-head, piece's of dried weed, and other assorted stuff that's on the ground around a building site. It's like a magnet for stuff like that! Ever drop a fuzzy blanket on the ground? Same thing, just a little smaller. For camp cord I'm sure it would be even worse. Specially if your camped in the type of forest like we have around here. So for camp cord, or any utility cord, I suggest getting some Paracord instead. It cost about the same and is far better. Paracord is a lot stronger, 550 pound capacity, has a tighter braid, easier to work with, last longer, and is by far the better choice for a utility cord for camping or just for around the house and makes a very good cloths line cord as well. From the several times that you will be able to use the Paracord over & over & over again, compared to the once or twice that you will be able to use the Colman Utility Cord makes the Paracord the better value. They have Paracord on Amazon in 550 pound test, 100 foot lengths, in 34 different colors to choose from and priced from $7.99 to $12.99, most colors are $8.99 or $9.99 for 100' hanks. After the first time I tried using the Colman utility cord to tie the tarp down over my storage building before I got the roof on it, I ordered a couple different colored 100 foot hanks of the Paracord from Amazon. The Paracord is just a far better choice than the Colman cord, for utility cord for camping, on a building site, around the house, just about anyplace and anything that you would need a light strong cord for. Which is kinda hard for me to say since I've used Colman camping equipment all my life. I grew up using Colman equipment, learned how to walk with a fishing pole in my hand going from bolder to bolder on the banks of the Arkansas River in the bottom of the Royal Gorge Canyon in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. When I was a kid and went back to school at the end of the summer and heard the other kids talking about "Going to Camp" during the summer. I thought they ment going camping like my family did! We had a few special spots that we would go to, 60 miles or so from the nearest town & way back in the Rockies where we wouldn't see anybody else at all for weeks and kinda "Homestead" it for the summer. With a 9'x9' Umberella tent, it even had a floor in it! An old 7'x7' Army wall tent - no floor - we used for a cook tent, and a 59 Mercury blue & white stationwagon. The way we camped, we wouldn't of had any use for this type of Colman Utility Cord. When it comes to Colman camping equipment, I've used it all my life and its alway been the best and worth what you paid for it. But when it comes to this, I hate to say it, don't waist your money on it.
I should have read the reviews first. I wanted something to tie up a tarp, it looked like it was on a large spool in the picture and I thought that it would be the thickness of clothesline rope. It's very thin and seems just like shoe lace.
