This review is for the Sonicare AirFloss Ultra. As a lifetime flosser I was intrigued by this new way to floss. Reviews have said the operation of the AirFlosser is great, but that durability issues have plagued it since it's debut. I have been using mine now for a couple of months and have been very happy with the ease of use, performance, and durability (so far). It also gives my gums a break from flossing as I trade off days. A couple days using dental floss, then a couple or so with the AirFlosser. I've been very happy with the product and would recommend to two sets of people--those who are regular flossers and want an easier way to floss, and those who do not floss and need some motivation to start. At this point I would highly recommend this product. Also, fill out the online registration and get a longer warranty!
I have used the Philips Air Flosser for over a month now and feel that it is an improvement over my old WaterPik. I find that it will not take the place of flossing when meat if jammed between teeth. Although my dentist makes sure my teeth are as close together as possible, at 75 years old there are some tiny spaces where meat will lodge. The air flosser does not always clear this. So as a complete replacement for regular floss it is not. I use it almost every day though. My dentist recommends it's use but feels that I should use regular floss every other day.
My dentist recommended this product. I purchased it and I love it. I still use wax coated floss but this device definitely removes debris that usually is painful to remove with floss (meat strands). The originally purchased device died about 10 months after I got it. Thankfully, I had it registered and it was still under warranty so they sent a replacement. I like this device because it has 3 different settings and others have just one. I love the device but I do feel it is rather pricey. This is an honest review and I didn't receive a free device, discount, etc. in exchange for a review.
I really debated back and forth between this and a water flosser, but I'm so glad I went with the air flosser. It was mainly bought for my 10 year old son, but I love using it too. It's very user friendly. I've had it almost a month and no problems. I mainly use water in it because I've heard that the sugar in mouth wash gunks up inside and causes issues. Sometimes I mix peroxide with water and use it and that does really well. It definitely was a great purchase.
Don't even think about purchasing any other water flosser. This is powerful and compact; has a rechargeable lithium battery, great ergonomics and very attractive. I LOVE it!
This is the sole product on the market with precise water jet. All other product are projecting too much water with no precision. This is my third one. The previous two were replaced under warranty Two problems : the handle just above the little cap cracks and the cap becomes defective. Also after approx 1 year for unknown reason it stops working all together. I am willing to pay more for an improved quality because there is nothing else on the market
I lay mine down on its side after each use, which can cause a light leakage issue from the compartment where the water/mouthwash is in. That's really the only reason for the 4* review. I LOVE how slim and portable it is, the pressure is spot for the space for each tooth. And I love the 3 different settings, it's not for extra pressure, it's for one burst, two bursts, or three bursts. I go back and forth between the one and two bursts, and use it every other day.
I love my Airfloss. I started using the previous generation several years ago. The results were fantastic as my regular teeth cleaning sessions with my dentist have gone from every 3 months to every 6 months and I not longer have bleeding. Then, about a year ago, I left my Airfloss in a hotel room while traveiling. As a result, I purched the current generation with larger resavoir and selection on the number of pulses (from 1 to 3). The product is great, but the first one quit working after about 6 months. Philips replaced that one under warranty, but the replacement quit working with the exact same problem in about the same period of time. Again, Philips has replaced the unit and hoping they have improved the quality so that this one lasts a few years.
First, I think the air pressure needs tweaking. Another notch of the Pulse will make this a very good flosser. Second, the mouthwash well, should be slightly bigger. I needed to refill toward the end of my flossing. Third, the small metal molding came off at the top. Maybe no molding would be better. I still use it when on trips, which does come in handy.
The AirFloss Ultra performed OK at removing small food particles between teeth. It will not replace thread type floss for my use because it could not remove large bits of food like chicken or celery. Be aware and keep your lips closed around the head before activating or you will spray the mirror with solution. The real problem is that my unit failed to work after only about seven weeks.
