We have 3 different humidifiers in 3 different rooms. This one is my favorite. It provides nice humidity, good white noice, and is easy to clean and change filters. A VERY important thing for me was that the water container FIT under the faucet in our bathroom sink (our other 2 humidifiers have large resevoirs and won't fit in the sink to refill.
We found the unit to work and has meet our expectations. We find the rhythm soothing as we sleep. Speaking of sleep, we have been sleeping better since we received this humidifier. We have not had dry throats and dry noses since we have been using this product. We are even thinking of buying another one for the other half of our home. The price is great and so is the product.
I'm not sure I understand the previous 2 reviews of this product, it works like a charm. I spent a great deal of time looking into single room humidifiers and being a cheap skate at heart, quickly dismissed anything over 50 bucks. After all, I wasn't looking to humidify the whole house, I was only concerned with adding moisture to the bed room, I was tired of waking up in the middle of the night with a sore throat in the winter when dry air is at it's worst. Little did I know that having a sub-50 dollar price point AND getting a quality machine was a bit ambitious. Well, upon searching local stores and finding most entry level machines coming in at between $79 and $100 dollars I went to trusty Walmart on line. After sorting through the confusion I ordered this Holmes product (no reviews had yet been entered). The feature set seemed great for the price but would it work? A resounding YES. No more dry sore throat in the morning. I run through a tank of water in about 18 hours so I know it's doing a great job rehumidifying the air and for a mere $43, a steal. Here's a big 'doh' on my part that hopefully you'll be forewarned about. After a week of usage the unit started making a harmonous whistling/clicking noise through the fan. Well, I immediatey thought 'Here we go, I went cheap and got cheap'. So I started packing up the unit for a return when what do I find? Under the blower unit where the filter is located there was a 3" square by 1" thick piece of packing styrofoam I had neglected to remove before setting up the unit. Once removed, problem solved. Not only was it making noise, it was undoubtly blocking a large portion of the airflow through the unit. I guess I should have read unpacking instructions and/or setup manual but I rarely do... In my opinion, you can't go wrong with this unit unless you are an ultra-light sleeper. You will hear the fan running in the background but it's not overbearing and for me, it has a soothing effect. Great quality product Holmes.
This is a great humidifier. In general, ones that utilize cool mist are louder than those that utilize warm mist. This is because of the noise created by the cool mist fan. This particular humidifier is quieter than anything I have ever used. Really. This is as quiet as it gets if you're using cool mist. I am a light sleeper, and it serves as a sort of nice white noise in the background. It has never disturbed my sleep. If you clean it out as recommended in the instructions, it will last a long time. Even if you just empty it out completely every few days, it will be fine. Of course the filters need to be replaced occasionally, but that is the same for every humidifier. This product does it's job well. Highly recommended.
I actually picked this up off the clearance rack at Walmart for $25. This was a replacement for a $150 humidifier that was on the fritz. I actually like this one better than my fancy expensive model. It works like a charm and is only slightly louder than my old one. The nice feature is that it turns on and off as needed. One tank can last a few days or a few hours depending on room conditions and how high you set the humidity level. I find the maintanence to be about average for a humidifier and the price of replacement filters is about the same as other models I've owned. I noticed an instant improvement in my sleep, allergies, and room comfort when I turned this on for the first time. If I only get a year or so out of it, I don't care because my expensive one didn't last much longer, maintanence was more tedious on the old one, and of course, I paid much less for this one.
Product is a little loud, but I sleep good to the sound of a fan motor. I'm amazed by the amount of humidification compared to the size of the unit. I bought it for the bedroom, but ended up trying it out for the whole house. To my surprise, it keeps up. It'll empty the water jug twice a day keeping our house at 40%. Good product.
The unit seems to work well. It has a good design and the various humidity percentages is nice. They said the fan was 30% more quite than the older version, but I find my fan has a blade that must be out of balance. I don't mind the fan sound itself but the unbalanced blade makes me think it is wearing out my motor bearings. For the price it is good.
I like this product a lot because I have chronic bronchitis and this helps me to breath at night. I love the automatic humidity control feature. Our water is hard, so I kind of have to stockpile the filters, but it is worth it. I think it is very quiet. There is a square peice of packing foam in under the fan that I forgot to remove also. Thanks for the warning. Good value for the money.
The product seems to work; however the filter gauge is an afterthought selling feature, my unit's gauge has a needle that does not even range inside the prescribed reading area therefore making it useless. The instructions mention to "follow the previous filling instructions" however my 135 IQ and college degree could not find ANY filling instructions in the pamphlet after several readings. the daily cleaning and weekly cleaning duties are extensive, certainly not an item that accomodates more than occasional use. My goal was to find a unit that would raise humidity to resolve a severe static electricity issue, this does not seem to be the one.
We bought this for the basement of our townhouse. We've had it for 3 nights, ran it on high and still haven't noticed a difference. The only reason we know is becuase we actually have a thermometer that gives us the temp and the humidity in the room, and the humidity is still dry. Its hasn't changed anything in the room at all. And its very loud. When my daughter and I sleep in the basement, we both still wake up with dry stuffy noses. Will be returning soon.
