Everyone in my family and I have always used Crisco Shortening. Over the years I have tried to use other cheaper store brands. None of them had the quality that Crisco has.
Have been using Crisco for years. It's NOT lard as some would believe. Crisco is all vegetable as the label states - and my go to for frying and preparing pans when baking. Clean up is easy as once it cools off, it becomes solid and I just scrape it right into the trash. I am glad that this is one thing I can always count on in such uncertain times.
Like most things, the cost of Crisco All Vegetable Shortening keeps increasing. However, I don't use it very often. So it lasts quite a while. I have been putting off purchasing it, but this time of year, with the fall harvest, nothing compares if you want to make a light crispy homemade pie crust.
It's difficult to say much about shortening that has been around for ages, but it's great! It works well in high-temperature cooking, has no hidden taste or flavor and is ideal for use in recipes calling for shortening. The 48 ounce can is perfect for our needs - big enough to last but easy to handle.
I had ran out of Crisco and ordered online and it was here in a few days. Great price too.
I'm a professional pie baker and the only shortening I use for my crusts is Crisco. I am not a "brand snob" and happily use store brands for most every product. Crisco is one of the very few exceptions. My pies have won many awards. Of prime importance is a flaky, tasty crust. Quickly doing the mental math, I've rolled out 140,000 crusts using Crisco over the past decade and a half. That's a lot of Crisco and a lot of very happy customers!
I don't use shortening for very many recipes but it is a must when I make my soft sugar cookies and frosting. Also I make wedding cakes occasionally and you can't get the perfect decorating frosting without it. I always keep a canister in my pantry for occasions that I will be making these yummy treats. The only problem with the shortening I've noticed is it doesn't have a long shelf life. It tends to go rancid if it sits too long so you can't stock up for future use.
The product itself works great, however, Walmart does not properly package this item when it ships so multiple times it has arrived damaged. Of course I reached out to Walmart which was useless because they did nothing other than say they wanted to help but then did not help. So be wary if you have to have this item shipped to your home, I know in my area it has not been readily available on the shelves like it used to be.
I'm not sure who's to blame but this certainly shouldn't have happened.
I was delivered a can with no plastic lid! I cannot use it because I cannot seal it up after. The rating is on Walmart - not Crisco! But, until I finish a container that has the same size lid, this product isn't usable. Shame on Walmart for delivering a damaged product.
