The direct wire simply replaces the wire from the "cigarette lighter" power source. The product can be hidden and tucked away, allowing for a clean installation. It looks great and allows for a variety of power sources in the cabin. This is the 3rd vehicle I have installed it on.
When first purchased detector, mainly used the 12 volt cig outlet. Easy to use, but have power wire reaching across dash. Bigger issue is the Auto start/stop mode of the engine. Power is cycled off at each stop light to restart the car. Added the direct power harness, and eliminated the loss of power when car restarts at stops.
Way overpriced for a 2 wire cable, but I had to have it. First one had already failed. Cheaply made end at detector.
Works as expected as it should.
Really helped clean up my wires. Everything needed for installation was in the box. Cord has an exceptional amount of length to it.
I bought a new 2019 BMW X5 and wanted to use my Escort radar detector for that secure feeling driving through speed traps. The 12v cigarette lighter is a new dimension and could not accommodate the stock wire connection that comes with the device. I searched the web for adapters, threw away bucks looking for an adapter plug, finally ordered an Escort hard wire connector and had the dealer wire it up for me hidden in the header. Now works perfectly without unsightly wire running up the windshield and in front of information displays of dashboard. Thank you for having this alternative for 12v access.
Only way to go with installation.
Great way to hid a wire. Just need a pro to wire it up. I use the visor mount so I can keep my detector always connected.
What I needed. The difficult part was installing it.
Tried to cancel the order. Never got confirmation for the order. Now need to drop off at UPS to return—which isn’t convenient.
