these are a lifesaver! Our almost-2-year-old figured out at an early age how to open our sliding doors to the deck AND how to unlock it when it's locked, so we tried a wooden piece that laid in the door frame that prevented the door from opening but it was 1) an eye sore and 2) he figured out he could just lift it up and then he would open the door anything (clever boy!) so these locks are key since we can put them up high enough that he cannot reach them! Also not noticeable since they are relatively small and clear!
This keeps my sliding door easy locked for my 3 year old, without making it difficult for me to get in and out. She easily figured out the locking mechanism on the sliding door handle, but this is up out of her reach, so she can't get it (I try not to even let her see me mess with it, in case she gets an idea to get a chair). It sticks well, I've had this on for a month or two and no issues. If it comes off I'll update my review. I don't know if this would help against an intruder putting their full force on it, but it seems fairly resilient. Someone mentioned their husband breaking it off when he opened the door with it engaged. I did not have that experience. I forgot to tell my husband when I put it on, and he was trying really hard to open the door and it didn't break or budge. I have never tried this product before, but these Sliding Door and Window Locks are a lot easier to use than some of the other locks that I have tried in the past. We have had one of these on our sliding door going out to our in-ground swimming pool for several years. It was very easy to install, and works perfectly! I would highly recommend this to and family member, friend, or interested person. Our 2 year old granddaughter has started to go out the other sliding door into the play area, something our older 5 grandkids never did. I pulled the second one out of the package, and just installed it on that door. i literally wiped the spot down with rubbing alcohol, took the protective tape off the back, and set it in place 1...2...3... Thanks for a great safety product at a reasonable price!
I love the idea that these can be used on most Sliding Doors as well as Windows. When you have a little toddler you can neve be to cautious. Because they are made from a durable transparent material you hardly notice they are there. There are no tools required, you just attach using adhesive. I'm beginning to think that baby proofing a house is impossible as they always seem one step ahead of me. But with these it's one less thing to worry about and I feel safe using them! Now that our toddler can reach the window I don't have to worry about him getting it unlocked.
I have an older home and most of our windows do not have screens. I also have an almost 8 month old and 4 cats that love looking out the window. These are perfect for monitoring how far the window can be opened to make sure we get some fresh air but also making sure noone can open the window further than we need it to.
This item did not work for me. It kept falling off window. I returned it.
Unfortunately this product did not do what I was hoping. I had the Fold Down Lock spaced out at 4" to prevent my 2 year old from opening the sliding door. After following the instructions of letting it sit for 48 hours prior to using, it only took my 2 year old a day to break the lock. Sorry for the review but you get what you pay for
