Thatch is made from a build up of leaves, stems and roots, that can block the amount of nutrients your lawn is able to take in. I purchased this machine not knowing what to expect. I was very pleasantly surprise. It a tough little workhouse just perfect for my medium size vegetable garden. Great value for the price. I have purchased the thatching device but have not had a chance to use it yet. If you need a small tiller, this is the guy.

I bought this to use in a 20' x 20' fenced in garden. I wanted something smaller that I could hold back so it wouldn't catch and run into the fence. It worked better than I was expecting. It's nice that it's compact so it takes up hardly any space in the garage. Well worth the money.

I bought this tiller for our small garden (20' x 30'). It starts on the first pull, idles great, and is very easy to adjust. The depth adjustments are easy and the clip needed to secure the depth is large that you won't lose it. It will till a lot on a single tank of gas. Very pleased with it!

got this cultivator to break ground for a row of young lilac bushes i was putting in along a fence. it was a perfect choice because of it's small size. i did a ton of research on small cultivators with enough power to do just that. plenty of other smaller engined cultivators can only turn previously broken or loosened soil. this thing broke right through some colorado hardpan. after using it all day I was surprised by how little fuel it used even though its a larger engine than most. I also got the dethatching attachment for my yard and that was an easy change over and made an otherwise tough job easy.

This is the second cultivator I have bought from Earthquake. The 1st one broke the transmission housing after 4 very good years of service. The repair was going to be almost as much as a new one so it was a no brainer to purchase the 2nd one. I use it to till my 12' x 20' box garden and a few other areas. It is light, easy to use and easy to clean up. We have ground that is mostly clay and topsoil. This year I mixed in 40 cu. yds. of peat moss to aid in drainage. The Earthquake cultivator did the job without even straining. If you have a small are to till, this product will do the job. It also is easy to take apart for storage.

Only one dissappointment

I purchased this cultivator primarily for my wife to use in flowerbeds. The quality seems good and using the machine only a few times I feel the power is very good. My dissappointment comes when trying to start the engine. The compression is very high and when pulling the starter it is nearly impossible to hold the unit at the same time. We usually yank the unit off the ground and it has even hit my wife in the leg and the tines left a good cut. I have little issues starting it but I can give it a good quick yank. She on the other hand does not have that ability. We have gotten to the point of laying the machine on its left side and putting a foot on the lower handle and starting it from that position. If not for me helping her find a way it would most likely be returned to the store. I owned a power equipment dealership for many years and have experience with such things. It would be benificial for the unit to be offered with a start assist mechanism such as Stihl uses on some of there saws where the starter is "pulled"slowly until the assist spring overcomes the compression. Great system and I believe it would be worth the extra cost.

Am pleased with the performance of the tiller. I only gave it for stars because it can be hard to start, even following the instructions on the unit. I also have a Earthquake post hole auger that is the same way. I found that after a couple of pulls if I hold down on the throttle a little with the choke still engaged that it generally will start with 2 or 3 pulls.

We bought this small cultivator last summer for our vegetable garden. It works well once the garden has been worked for awhile. It is not heavy-duty enough to easily turn-over hard soil. When the soil is hard, it skims across the dirt. We do like the size of this product. It is small enough to get in-between plant so you can save time hoeing.

I bought this to replace on a cultivator that no longer ran. I have only used it once so far and it has plenty of power. I did have a small issue of it being difficult to start but the company said if I loosened the gas cap a little it would help. It worked. I was very happy with how quickly they responded to my concern.

I had the predecessor for the Earthquake called the lil' hoe. The Earthquake has a more powerful engine and sturdier frame but the same blades. It works great but after storage I have a problem restarting the engine. An electrical start would be a good addition.
