I purchased this phone card after not getting one for a very long time. At this point my phone number was not usable any longer. Your site walked me right through the steps and I had a new number and added the value of the card in minutes. I appreciated the great service and the value. Thanks. HOWEVER.....TRYING TO FILL OUT AND SEND THIS REVIEW WAS MORE STRESSFUL, I'VE ENTERED 10 'NICKNAMES' AND IT SAYS EVERYONE OF THEM HAVE BEEN TAKEN. Even some really stupid made up ones. Geesh
I priced this both on Straight Talk's website and Walmart's website, and the taxes were about 50% cheaper on Walmart's site. Straight Talk hits you with the E991 tax and 2 or 3 other governmental cost recovery "taxes" that you do not need to pay if you buy through Walmart. This is also better than buying in the store since you don't need to deal with scratching off the coating over the codes which I found rather tedious. If not careful, you can scratch off the code itself which, from what I understand, is difficult to get resolved.
If you are like me...and live a considerable distance from your local Walmart Store...this is for you! I have been a "Straight Talk" customer for years and absolutely love the savings and convenience of their "non-contract" cell phone system. I have saved HUNDREDS of dollars using Straight Talk, throughout the years! I still find it hard to believe that people are spending $75-over $100+++for a lousy 700 minutes per month <+ text message charges and extra charges for internet service, on their smart phones>...when you can get UNLIMITED talk-text-and web service for $45 per month through Straight Talk!! SERIOUSLY!! Now...when my phone runs out of minutes before my payday...I no longer have to travel all the way to my local Walmart store to buy a "service plan" to renew my service. I can simply log-in online...buy a service plan...and they email my "PIN" number within minutes...and I am back up and running...without ever having to leave the house!
I have enjoyed Straight Talk for several years with no problems whatsoever. Recently for no particular reason my auto-renew just stopped. Then they turned off my phone. Trying to go through the system to restart my auto-renew or just keep it going was a frustrating experience. I spoke to a lady who obviously had no clue as to what happened. I went to Walmart and bought a renewal card. As I scratched off the material covering the pin number, the numbers scratched off along with the covering. Had to drive back to Walmart and get money back. Finally, went on line, renewed with ease and everything was back to normal, except my auto pay is gone. Several others have mentioned having administrative problems with Straight Talk. Maybe it's time for Straight Talk to upgrade training of their reps, or at least make it less complicated to get something done. I'm an old man and don't have enough time left to sit listening to music and "I don't knows."
Bought the card on a Thursday morning at 5:32 a.m., and did not receive the e-mail containing the redemption code for the 1000 Minutes until Sunday at 11:00 a.m. I would not buy your card like this, it is easier and more time saved by going into the store and purchasing the card in
This card will not work on smartphones.I did not see a warning before a email purchase.Walmart does not even have a way to cancel this paid for but unused card. What if it was bought as a gift? Going thru hassle with credit card co. to get refund.MAKE SURE BEFORE YOU BUY!!!
If you have unlimited plan, don't buy it, it won't work with unlimited plan phones or with any other phone which is not originally from Straight Talk and not set up for this $30 plan. Straight Talk won't give you a refund, neither will allow to use these minutes on your current phone. Shame they don't say it clearly anywhere...
The Straight Talk phone card had a serious defect. It took about ten days for Straight Talk to correct the problem, and it was a huge inconvenience. I have been a Straight Talk customer for almost a year. I switched from the "unlimited" $45. card to the 1000/1000/30MB card for $30. The card did not download to my (same as ever) phone properly. I kept getting Verizon-error-messages, and THE PHONE WOULD NOT WORK. An employee at WalMart spent almost two hours trying to help me with the card, and entered re-coding again and again, exactly as directed by a Straight Talk rep. on the phone, and it still wouldn't work. At the end of two hours, with almost a dead battery, the phone was half-working, BUT Straight Talk had somehow deducted about half of all my minutes, texts, and internet time. ANOTHER BIG MISTAKE BY STRAIGHT TALK. I continued to complain by email, to no avail. I had to call 3-4 more times, and it went from bad to worse. One customer service rep. told me that she would credit extra time for me; but instead, my phone showed that there were only 300 minutes left, 300 text messages left, and 11 MB of internet time left; when in fact I had only used about 100 minutes, maybe 30 text messages, and NO internet time. (so I should have still had ~900 minutes, 970 texts, and 30 MB of internet.) I called AGAIN and I WAS LEFT ON HOLD FOR JUST OVER ONE ENTIRE HOUR. I really thought that no one was going to EVER pick up the phone. Thankfully, I had the phone on the charger; otherwise the phone battery would have gone dead. FINALLY a customer service rep. answered the phone and this last customer service rep. was the ONLY person who seemed to know what he was doing, and he agreed that I had NOT used any of the time that had been deducted, and he FINALLY fixed the problem. But it took about TEN DAYS and was HORRENDOUS. I am looking at other options for phone service, because I cannot afford to be without a phone, and I cannot bear to go through this kind of HORRENDOUS experience again. I CANNOT RECOMMEND STRAIGHT TALK AT ALL.
I bought this for my unlocked AT&T iPhone. Reception is great but NO Internet apart from my home or work wifi. They also don't tell you that iPhones cannot be used with the 35 dollar plan. Customer service is generally not available, and when they are, you may get transferred several times and placed on hold for thirty minutes at a time. I could go on but I think I've made my point.
I purchased a straight-talk sim & was using a $45 recharge. I was enticed to opt for the $30 plan, due to my low data and voice usage. I bought a $30 plan but could not use it, since it was not compatible with my sim. Nowhere on the walmart website was it mentioned that it was not compatible with the sim I had. I ultimately ended up negotiating a 15 day unlimited for my $30, I lost 8 days worth of talk-time! I believe there should be a mechanism to check if the sim is compatible with a particular plan or not, else the customer is bound to lose, and If the customer stands to lose, then its quite possible that the company stands to lose customers!!!
