I have been using the new Epson EcoTank ET-2850 for a few weeks now and I am very impressed with the quality and quantity I am able to print. Starting with the biggest feature of this printer; the Ecotank! Gone are the need for cartridges and having them go dry right when you need them. Having a refillable tank makes it extremely simple and easy to always have the ink when you need it. I have been printing non stop and I still have yet to refill these tanks. While it does show that I have used a small amount of ink, the tanks are pretty large and hold a lot! Each color has its own bottle of ink that comes with the printer and it states that its enough ink to last up to two years! I believe that with how much I have been printing and how little the ink levels have gone down. Next, it prints automatically on both sides!! This is huge for me. I do a lot of document printing and being able to save paper and print on both sides is great! This is a great feature that I have not seen on a lot of printers. I love the fact that this is a wireless printer! I got it connected with wifi and everything in my home (including ipads and iphones) immediately were able to connect and print to this printer. Super simple and no extra setup was needed. How's that for ease of use?! Last but not least, what makes this an all in one, the flatbed scanner! Using it with the on device control is very simple as well as using the Epson Scan software. All in all I am extremely impressed with this device. This printer is just the right size and like the fact ink lasts longer than typical ink jet. I gave the 5 stars but would have loved for you to have the printer options on the print pop up on computer rather than having to scroll thru on the small screen on printer but it is user friendly and so it's just a different way of getting to options. Still a great purchase and product thus far.
I've had more printers over the years than most home users. I've had inkjet, normal and large format, regular and photo printers. I've has laser jets, b/w and color. I've had HP, Epson, Xerox and Brother. Standalone machines and All in Ones. This is my favorite (non photo) inkjet. It's incredibly compact, it has a nice finish/look. Build quality is good, interface is small but easy to navigate. The paper tray is adequate sized for any home or small office use. The scanner (and copy feature) are great quality, it prints fast (especially b/w). The ink is an absolute breeze to load and not a drop comes off from the bottles when you take them out. It's quieter than most ink jets, the print quality is fantastic and its wireless (makes life a breeze). First impressions (unboxing): The unit was well packaged, not worried about potential damage. Bravo on the packaging design and attention to detail. Included in box: - Printer - (4) FULL SIZE ink bottles!! - power cord - manual - installation cd not included: - usb cable - free money Setup: You can setup connected directly to a computer via standard USB printer cable. The CD contains the software, to it can be found on epson.com Either way easy peezy. You Can also opt to setup wirelessly through the epson mobile app. First time I've setup a printer this way and let me say it was simple and went flawlessly. Walked me through everything from power, alignment, ink loading and network setup. Highly recommend this. Once it's on your network, any computer or tablet can/will see it. Print quality/speed/paper handling: - B/W shoots out a page every 5-6 seconds - color (lots) takes 15-20 sec for a page Very crisp, no lines, no overspray (saturated paper), no under spray. It's just right. Color is vibrant. - Printer is auto-duplex. Shocking to have built in for such a small inkjet. - Wireless printing from Mac and iOS devices is flawless and a breeze. Works properly, every time. Scanner: Scan quality is great, copy feature replicates pages quickly and with utmost quality. Here is where the ONLY downside to this unit comes in. Scanning must be done connected to a computer via USB. You can't scan to the network (preset locations ie computer/folder) like you can with my standalone Epson page feed, auto duplex scanner. Literally the only thing I could find to complain about. They could have at least allowed scan to PDF with email to yourself. Again, this is the one features lacking in this unit Email printing: You can setup an account on epson which assigns a unique epson email to the printer. You can use that email address to send emails that will automatically print. The body of the email (chain) will print as well as doc/pdf attachments automatically. Summary: Great unit for home users and home offices. Also good in a small business environment at one person's desk (if for scanning) or amongst users IF volume of printing is low. Quality of prints is well above average for an inkjet. Auto duplex is a hugely beneficial feature in a compact machine. Wireless printing works flawlessly. Ill is cheap and plentiful doing away with overpriced cartridges of old (or refilling, god what a messy nightmare that used to be). I'm very happy with this unit. My wife and kids are happy with this unit. In the 2 weeks we have had it, we have printed 200+ pages and this little champ is likely to be our long term go to family printer in a small apartment. This printer has awesome features along with the amount of ink to last for a couple years!! The savings in the ink replacement alone is unbelievable! Quick and easy setup and quality of the printed image is amazing! I honestly believed the cost of the printer would be double what it is, and it would of definitely been worth it. If you want a money saving, easy use, and great quality print subject, this is it!!! I have printed off many student manuals, worksheets and documents and the ink barely moves. Great quality and easy to setup. Very satisfied with my purchase.
Set up was not as easy as described as I was also getting used to a new computer at the same time. I mistakenly purchased an app I did not need... but figured out I didn't need it and got a refund. The directions are not as clear as they should be... I waited for an hour for the ink to activate only to realize it had not been activating... turned off the printer, unplugged, and plugged in again, It worked that time around. Computer was not finding printer and printer wasn't finding network... unfortunately installation for me took hours.... but it is running very well now, thankfully.
I am very impressed with this new Epson Ecotank ET-2850. What really sold me right away with this printer is that I no longer have to by ink cartridges. The ink bottles that this printer uses are recyclable plus the amount of ink in each bottle lasts a long time. Better for the planet and for your wallet too. I found it very easy to fill the ink reservoir (no mess & it fills quickly) and it's also very easy to see the current ink level on the front of the printer. The ink is supposed to last up to 2 years, depending on how much your printing, which is perfect because I won't have to constantly order ink. Setting up the printer was so easy to do with the Epson App. I did the whole setup with my phone and the instructions were very clear. I really like that I can operate the printers features from my phone. I have been testing out this printer and so far I really like the print quality. It prints quickly, text is very sharp and pictures are vibrant and clear. I also really like the scanner, it makes a copy so quickly plus you can scan documents right to your connected device. The Epson EcoTank ET-2850 Printer is compact and lightweight. It doesn't take up much space so it's perfect for small home office. It was very easy to set up the printer with the QR code, which was provided on both instructions and printer screen. It took about 15 minutes and it was frustration-free. Filling up ink was quick and easy. I appreciate that the ink bottles were vacuum sealed so there is no chance of the ink leaking during delivery. My husband and I both love being able to see the amount of ink. Once set up was completed, I was notified on my phone. Also, it was a breeze to link the printer to my wifi in the app. The printing speed is fast and printing double sided documents did not jam the printer. There is no need to flip the page manually. It is great for someone who has no patience. Jammed paper was an recurring issue with my old printer so I definitely like that I can print double sided documents without fear. Overall, it is perfect for basic home printing and I would recommend it to others. Having had an Epson WF3620 before, we thought the experience would be good on our new Epson ET2850.... Not so! The biggest gripe I have is the extremely tiny control screen (1" x 1" on new, 2" x 2" on former, which requires a magnifying glass to read the icons (I'm 81 and have corrective lenses). The set up was not pleasant, in that trying to connect to our Wi-Fi took hours until I called a family member who's technically smart and she took an hour to figure out that I'd selected the "guest" connection instead of our regular connection. Nothing in the installation guide to show this. This printer is definitely a lightweight version of the Workforce unit and probably aimed at the casual home user. I was disappointed in that no USB port is on this unit. Otherwise, it is now working as expected. I do like the ease of filling the ink tanks.
Ecotank all in one with front and back copying is just what I needed. Saving on ink and paper already. Only one issue--having to clean print head every three or four pages due to missing print segments.
