This product is very useful and effective as long as it's used in the way it's designed for. The claim that it will cool a room off by 15 degrees seems unrealistic to me, as it would have to be installed in a window so it would constantly draw fresh, un-humidified air in and out through another open window like a non-portable, but just sitting in the room it will mostly recirculate the air until the humidity increases to the point that the evaporation will no longer be enough to have any cooling effect. But if it's used like a fan, pointed right at you (with plenty of ventilation, like an open door as well as windows) it works quite well simply blowing evaporatively cooled air directly on you. I used it in the RV. that way in about 100 degrees and 60% humidity, and it kept me comfortable. The only drawback is it has a defective water pump that makes a constant clunking noise, so I'll have to return it and order another one. But the fan ran plenty quiet at least.
I love having this swamp cooler. It keeps me and my dog ool and provides extra moisture to the air. This SPT swamp cooler easily rolls from room to room with lockable casters. It comes with a remote control and three-speed fan. I usually turn this unit on before noon so it's easier for it to beat the heat. When it's on, it's like a freezer zone, even in the hottest day in the summer.
I ordered this air cooler for my garage where I work. It has been running for almost one week and, yes, it works great. Since my garage is approx. 400 sq.ft., I need to keep the air flow directly on me so I don't get baked. In the heat of 95 degree outside, the ice melts very fast, but I was able to use the ice packs provided for more cooling effect.
I bought this for some relief from the heat. The drawer is somewhat clumsy to pull out and fill with water. I liked all the choices that the air cooler had, such as the rate of air flow. However, the water pump ceased to function after a few days so cold air was no longer being blown out; basically it became a very expensive fan on wheels. I returned it to Walmart.
In order for it to really work you need to sit infront of it. This will not cool a room off, it will spit out a little bit cooler air, maybe because of the strong fan. But dont think you can leave for a while and come back to a chill room, it sint going to happen. If you have no air circulation in the room it will get very humid and warm after a while. They have A/C units going for cheaper around $100 Im taking this back and getting that instead
to tell you the truth i dont know how well it works. we read the instructions and started it up, then we noticed some leak on the carpet, we thought we spilled water. we moved the unit to a different place started the whole thing and the whole carpet got wet. we tried a few different times and gave up. i would not reccomend this product.
My wife needed a way to cool the room when the temps were in the 90-100 range. She saw an evaporitve cooler advertised in the paper and thought it would help cool the room. I researched evaporative coolers and we settled on one that WalMart carried. It was a disappointment. We did not even use it. Just reading the manual told us that... well, first it said to 'use as much ice as possible'. Then it said to 'leave the windows open'. I suppose if you lived in the desert you could leave your windows open...but that just lets more heat in...didn't make sense to us... Not practical so we returned it.
I live in the mountains of southern California.. it gets hot in the summer, with temperatures usually 80-95. It's very dry, so I thought this would be a great addition. I've seen some other humidifiers/swamp coolers in action, and in most situations, they worked well. Unfortunately, this unit did little for our 325 sq ft living room except make it very muggy. It may have cooled the temperature up to 5 degrees or so, but that was offset by the very high humidity. The unit also started squeaking alot after 2 days.. I called Sunpentown, and they emailed me a diagram on what to do to fix it. It was easy to fix, and great customer service, but not very promising for a brand new unit to have a problem. We will stick to our portable 10kbtu AC unit, we recently bought, which costs more to operate, but works much better.
This doesnt really cool much at all. Evaporative coolers operate on the condition that the air they pull in is drier then the air they put out. They way they cool is taking advantage of this difference in humidity, because as the water evaporates into the dry air it cools it off. but air can only hold so much water before no more will evaporate, then the humid air will begin to heat up again. Long story short, if you leave this running in a room for several hours, the room will become very humid and the same temperature or higher than when it was left. I live in a very dry area, and I was very disapointed in this products performance, and have returned it.
I live in a very hot and dry climate so this product should have worked well. It didn't. Even when I crammed 4 or 5 trays of ice cubes into the water reservoir, it only cooled the outgoing air about 4 or 5 degrees. Product documentation said I could expect up to a 12 degree difference. Also, this unit is not well built. The reservoir drawer sticks when you try to slide it, sloshing the water all over. A filter on the end of the drain tube broke off the first day. The batteries included with the remote were encrusted with corrosion. Even the Sunpentown stickers on the unit were coming off. I took the whole unit back and bought an a/c - so much for the environmentally friendly route.
