Execellent doggie gate

I purchased this product for use as a doggie gate. I needed to restrict the areas that I wanted my little doggie to have access to. This gate & the additional extension worked great for the large opening between rooms that I needed to cover. I am very satisfied with this purchase and the price was unbeatable. I shopped around on the internet for the best price, and found it at Walmart.com. Thank you.

We have a nine month old daughter that is into everything and everywhere. The most dangerous area in our house is the kitchen so this gate was the perfect solution to block her out of there. The installation was a pain but doable. Time will tell how well I installed it but for now it is doing the job. The price is great for the product you get.

The gate does it's job in my household so far. The swinging door is essential b/c I don't want to step over. It can swing out or in. Things that may be different about my needs than yours...(1)If a gate is up, although very large dogs, my dogs don't push on the gate, they simply stand at it and bark :) (2) My toddler is only 12 months so at this point may or may not be applying pressure that's similar to your child's. Also, mine is set up where tile and wood come together so it's kind of slippery, causing the "joint" of the 2 sections to not be perfectly stationary. I don't know what kind of pressure would cause it to end up breaking at the point it's connected to the wall. It may also be better if on carpet b/c it'd be less likely to shift.

I wanted to add my two cents because there are so many negative reviews here! We have had these gates for over a year and I've been pleased with them. We have two of these gates, one with the extension panel. Installation is quite complex but we found the instructions to be accurate enough. If you take your time and read everything thoroughly it's straightforward enough. My husband and I did them together one night. The gates aren't super solid especially when your child starts swinging on them!! We did have problems with dowels coming out that other reviewers mentioned. We tried superglue and then drilled a hole for an additional screw to hold it together securely. It might be worth doing that before you install just in case it does come apart. This wasn't a big deal to me and was easy to fix - better than a plastic gate breaking which would be impossible to fix! The biggest positives for me are how the gates look - very classy for a babyproofing product and natural wood is so much easier on the eyes than white plastic - and that they can be removed from the doorway. We always took them out when we were entertaining and I loved that about them. The latch is a bit hard to manage and sometimes stick, so they probably wouldn't be great in high traffic area but that's not what we used them for. Overall a good product - when I bought them I thought they were fairly expensive but looking back I think they've been good value. Friends have commented on our "nice gates" and they've done the job we bought them for!

one flaw

This is a great gate. However, there is one flaw. It can easily be pushed open if the child pushes hard enough in the middle of the gate where the gate foot rests. I placed a 4 lb weight on that foot so that it is less likely to happen. It is only a matter of time before my kid figures this out.

This product suits my purpose nicely. It is a great deterrant for my small dogs, but I would not recommend it for larger animals as they may push it over. It was a little complicated to measure, but it was easy to set up otherwise. I definitely recommend this gate.

I looked at lots of online stores for a gate that would fit the door to my son's bedroom, which is extra wide because it has french doors...this was the cheapest I could find that swung open...but for over 40 dollars it is really hard for me to open! I am hoping it will get easier as it gets used more and more...otherwise I will have to buy a different one, because I need one I can open with a baby in one arm and this one is to high just to step over. I'm very unhappy with this product.

I looked all over for a wide gate and finally settled on this one, despite the negative reviews that I had read about it. That is the last time I will go against my better judgment and purchase something that a lot of folks complained about. Before I got it, I liked that it covered a wide space without having to swing the entire gate open to get through it. I also liked the look of it, but that is the only thing I eneded up liking about it. First of all it was quite hard to install. It took my husband and I the better part of 2 hours to get it lined up and installed. The locking device on the handle was hard to squeeze, basically rendering the "one handedness" useless. And like others have said, it eventually broke. After a month or so we had to reinforce the spindels with screws, which of course caused the rails to eventually split. We ended up duck taping the thing back together but that didn't work well for all that long. Overall the gate was not all that sturdy, hard to install, and eventually fell apart. I was not happy at all. *Please note* if you have any kind of change in surface, such as a transom or going from carpet to hardwood then this gate WILL NOT work. You cannot get the stabilizing foot to lay flat, basically making the whole thing twist when you open or shut it.

This gate is difficult to construct and the parts are cheap quality. The plastic button on the latch broke and the extension required several applications of wood glue until we finally had to use screws to hold it together. We have had this gate about a year, but it began "falling apart" after only a few months.

DON'T BUY THIS GATE

This gate fell apart only after a few weeks. The wood that it is made of is too soft to keep the screws in. The screws to keep the door on fell out and couldn't be fixed. I ended up using wire to hold the gate together for a few more weeks. I don't know about other wood gates but this one is poor quality. I'm now shopping for a metal gate.
