Outstanding! It actually fit better than I thought it would. was looking to close off half the bathroom double dorrs, but this extended to the entire doorway, even better. i have a newly rescued cat who needs confined for a while to avoid fights with my other cats and this lets he see out and the others can check her out without any injuriis. its asy to move to get in the bathroom, just pick it up & move enough to let me in & the set it back to stop anyone else sneaking in. It was easy to put together and is adjustable .
This is a decent barrier if you need one that you can move around or can't attach to a wall. I put one end of it against the stair bannister and the other against the wall. My 4 dogs - 3 Labrador Retrievers and a collie mix - accepted that it was a barrier and did not try to push through; it's tall enough that they didn't think about jumping over. I like that I can move it to either keep them from going up the stairs, or from going into the computer room. The brown wooden style is nice looking and does not scream "baby gate". It's fairly easy to put together, but I had to fiddle around alot to get it the right width for my doorway. The wooden pieces that hold it up are very long and stick out from the gate, they might be a trip hazard depending on where you place the gate. Not the strongest gate but it's working for us.
The gate did everything I needed, it was tall enough to keep out my pets, and sturdy enough not to fall over, but the finishing of the gates was poor. The nail heads holding the slats on the main piece were in the back of the gate but in the slider gate they were in the front.. The nail heads look ugly and should have been spackled and then painted. Also when the gate was stretched to 48" the two parts partially collapsed in the center as there was only one nail holding them...
It is a large free standing gate. It is rickety and feeble. It's more of a mental barrier for dogs. If they really want around it they have no problem pushing it out of the way. It's a $110 gate. I would expect a more substantial obstacle for that price.
I was so sorry that this did not work for us. I returned it the next day. I have two dogs, one about 12 lbs and the other about 15 lbs, and they managed to move this thing from the doorway. After escaping once, I knew it was all over so back it went. Bought another gate that works better for us.
