I think I got this in my local store for only $14 around Easter last year. Not sure I'd have wanted to pay $20. That aside, I LOVE this thing. It plays the sound (we like the nature over the lullaby) for much longer than any of her other soothers. It is quiet, but still loud enough in the dead quiet of night. The light will not work hardly at all in the DAY. But at night, when the room is very dark, it works GREAT! It's a waste to use it if the sun is still out. That is a given. We use it at bedtime and the images are all very clear, and ours stands up, even on carpet. It's on the floor nest to her crib, and shines on the ceiling right above her crib. The sounds are very soothing. I was taking a bubble bath one night and was relaxed just from listening to it over the baby monitor and didn't realize until it timed out how soothing it was. Another great thing about it is that we've had it since Easter, and I've never had to change the batteries.
This little light is my savior. The ocean sounds put my little one to sleep without fail every time. Definitely worth it.
As a teenager who grew up with this penguin lullaby machine that I might or might not have lost a piece to, I genuinely loved this thing. Yes it may not be the best in the world but what could you expect? Mine although really old, still plays music and the projection is just as it was years back. This thing is amazingly durable and will last you some solid years. Along with other old items I had as a kid, this is by far one of my favorites. So as someone who has grown up with this item, I would recommend this for others. A tip, try not to lose the projector slides. I still have two but I feel incomplete without the other one. The projection are really cute and the music is the best. I have yet to fine the names of the pieces of classical music it plays. The calm sound and soft lighting of this penguin, calms nerves and gives off a nice setting kind of like listening to the sounds of a forest while looking at the night sky imagining the designs of animals by connecting stars. Looking up, a pleasing sound to the ears and something to look at, helps you sleep. I think that this item is just great the way it is. Some others set their expectations too high for this machine, but if you just focus on how peaceful this becomes at night. Its worth it.
Me and my husband bought this for our 9 month old son for Christmas, well we decided to let him open it early, it did not come with batteries which I understand, he was so excited that we went to the store and bought batteries for it, well then we turn it on and turn off all the lights and you can not even see it on the ceiling, it still is fun for him to play with and hear the music but for letting him look at it on the ceiling like we wanted to and disappointed me big time. If you want it for the ceiling do not buy, if you want it for my music and a play toy it is pretty good.
THE PRODUCT IS GOOD FOR THE PRICE BUT IT COULD BE BETTER; THERE'S NO WAY TO TURN UP OR DOWN ON THE VOLUME. THE ROOM HAS TO BE COMPLETELY DARK IN ORDER FOR YOU TO SEE THE CHARACTERS ON THE WALL OR CEILING. I'M A HUGE FISHER-PRICE BUYER BUT THIS ONE WAS A LITTLE DISAPPOINTING TO ME.
I purchased the Discover 'n Grow Select-a-Show Soother from my local toystore as a Christmas present whilst looking for a toy that would provide distraction and relief for my baby before going to bed. Although the selection of sounds and music that the device creates are adequate and of some interest to my child, the light effects were less than satisfactory. The light source when turned on does not readily reach the ceiling with minimal clarity, brightness and focus. I tried to aim the unit at the wall on an angle, so that the light beam had a shorter distance to travel. At a distance of about 30cm, brightness was adequate, but focus is still blurry and the image unclear and the size of projection is greatly reduced. To achieve this amended position, I had had to balance the unit on an angle that meant that it was quite unstable. Whenever I repositioned the unit and tipped/rotated it, the slide and spare slides all fell out, clattering to the floor and disturbing my child's pre-sleep routine. Frustrating, disappointing.
I got this as a gift a couple of days ago and I tried it out. I was a little disappointed because the pictures were blurry and I figured they would go with the music and they don't. Also each little card has about 4 or 5 tiny pictures on it and it's really not very much to look at. The pictures don't travel across the ceiling they just go in and out. The only reason I'm keeping it is because it would probably work if I was just going to a friends house and they needed to nap I could turn it on.
I purchased this toy expecting a show. Its a still picture with colors constantly changing. My 10month didnt want to be bother by it either. plus u can hardly see the pictures on the ceiling unless you stack it up high only then the pic became smaller. If you store it on a smaller shelf, the picture becomes blurry.
Unfortunately this was not what I expected. The lights are barely visible that having it standing isn't even an option. The only way we can even see the lights is if we lay of flat in my daughters crib and point it at the back wall next to her head. But she crawls while she sleeps and ends up waking up to play with it so this really defeats the purpose of soothing her to sleep. Also the sound control only has two options which are both very very low. I was a little disappointed. And to be honest she doesn't seem to love it all that much anyway. Ah well lesson learned. I will not be purchasing this again or recommend to anyone.
This is horrible quality and I expected more from fisher price. Only good thing about it is the music is ok. HOWEVER all the images are blurry and out of focus. we thought it was the lens so took it apart to clean. realize the lens was only part of the problem. The lens plastic is warped and has lines running throughout it contributing to the blurriness. Still even without it we can double unfocused pictures unless the thing is about 4 inches away from the ceiling or wall. Next we checked the LED's but couldn't find fault there. Then we checked the picture disks themselves with just the sleeve and a single point led. We got the blurry issue! The problem is both the top plastic cover and the distance the product disks are from the light source. If you move the picture disk more than 6 inches away from the top of the black box that contains the led you get somewhat of a clear picture. This is an extremely poorly designed toy.
