I purchased this for my daughter 3 months ago, who is now 9 months. It is great for practicing coordination and fine tuning her motor skills with picking up the balls in her little hand. She is amazed to discover which side the balls come out and loves to bat at the bird. Great attention grabber as music plays when the basket is tipped.
Not sure why the other reviewers didn't like this toy. My husband got it for our son when he was 6 months old and he is now 8 months old and has learned how to pick up the balls and put them in the basket. I think this toy has taught him the most. It is manually operated but these days that is a good thing as it teaches the baby how to know he has learned something. Everytime he gets a ball in the basket, we clap and he will manually dunk the basket. This is an awesome boy toy!!!
I agree with a previous reviewer that you have to take your hand and push the basket down to get the noises to come on. I thought it might make noise as the ball rolls through the hole or something. My son got it for his first birthday as a gift and even then he was too old for it. He stopped playing with it after a few days and it just sits in the living room now. He got very bored with it very fast. I think, as others have posted, it would be good for a baby around 6 months or so but probably not much older.
I would like to agree with the review "cute but disappointing". My daughter likes to hit the sides of the basket to make the music but nothing happens when she puts the balls into the basket. And, she has to hit it fairly hard to get it to tip enough to set off the music. It would be more entertaining and would better teach cause and effect if there was music and lights when the balls went in the basket. Not a bad toy, just expensive for what it does.
My daughter got this for Christmas last year. She had just turned one. I almost returned it but before I could my husband opened the box. I thought it was too simple of a toy. I did not think it would hold her attention, but it did. Still gets played with at 22 months. She has not lost the balls yet and it has held up to being sat on and used as a dolly bed. I would have never purchased it myself, but it sure has gotten used.
This toy is boring. My 11 month old touched it one time and when it didn't light up or play music she left it alone and I try to get her to play with it but it doesn't get her interest. You have to actually move the top of the toy to get it to play music!
My daughter received this as a gift when she was about 9 months old. She barely played with it at all. A better alternative to this toy that is similar (and less expensive) is the Bright Starts Drop & Giggle Giraffe. My daughter still plays with that one and likes it a lot better. Plus, it isn't as big and bulky, taking up less space.
This tiger is very durable but the basket doesn't tip when you put the ball in it. You have to push on the basket with your hands to get the sound effects & lights to work. My 15 mo.old grandson did not play this toy. If the basket would tilt when a ball landed in it would be a great toy but it turned out to be a disappointment.
My son got this as a gift for his first birthday. I took it out of the box and set it up and was surprised to find that it does absolutely nothing! I don't know maybe my son is too old for it - either way, I feel bad for my aunt who bought it for him because he doesn't play with it. A BIG WASTE OF MONEY!!!
My son (now 10 mos.) got this as a gift last Christmas. It is hard to get the basket to tilt enough to get the sounds to come on or for the ball to roll down the shute. The weight of the ball alone will not do it. The child has to manually tilt the basket, which defeats the whole purpose of learning to shoot to make a basket. It's really just one of those toys that has only one way to play with it, doesn't allow for any creativity, and will very soon just end up taking up space in your home. Seriously, don't waste your money on this.
