We live in Florida and need to mow the grass weekly in the rainy season. I had never tried a push reel mower so I wasn't expecting much. My brother assembled it within 20 minutes and he's not the handy type. My husband said it works well for a manual mower as he has had some experience with others. It provides a pretty nice cut. I found it a little bit hard to push but my husband didn't. The grass was a bit wet when I tried. My husband also commented that this is perfect for small lawns. No gas or oil so that is a huge plus. No sharpening the blades annually either. The handle moves to the vertical position for easy storage.
I really enjoy my push mower as it is easy to use & cuts really sharp at any length. Shipping was very quick. It also was easy to put together. I even took it to a friends to mow loading in my small car. All I had to do was take the handle off to travel. I'd recommend this to anyone!
I was so happy when this arrived. Our gas mower had recently but the dust & our yards really needed a good mowing. A real test for this mower which I'm thrilled to say it passed with flying colors. Admittedly over-grown for us means the grass is a couple inches higher than we maintain ours in but this time it was more like double that. Even better though was it easily cut through a stubborn weed patch behind the back fence by the alley. Those weeds are thick, dense and tough ( the weed name is spotted surge). My hubs lowered the blade all the way down and the mower made quick work of them. He said the mower is super easy to push and is very happy with it. He has a bad back so this was important. He looked over the blades when he had finished and said they were still sharp which he was incredibly impressed by. Apparently it truly does sharpen the blades as it mows. I saw someone mention the wheels are plastic & theirs broke. I went out and looked at the wheels & they are plastic but are a super heavy duty plastic. I asked my hubs about it & he said those wheels must have taken a beating rather than normal use to have broken. That the wheels on this mower are super sturdy. I assembled the mower while he was out and hung a happy face on it for him to see when he got home. A hint? You bet it was. He was still talking about how easy it was to push this evening at dinner & said he had decided we didn't need to replace the gas mower. This would work fine. That's saying a lot coming from an established gas mower man!
I'm glad this came when it did, I've always used gas powered mowers, but recently i had a friend try to help me with the yards, and he broke my mower. Nothing I did fixed it, so here we are. While I've never owned a "Reel Mower" Everyone I've talked to has nothing but good things to say about them. I'm one of those people now. This was decently easy to set up for use, and is easy to disassemble/"fold" up for storage. if you want a bag to catch the grass, you'll need to do some separate ordering. The blades seem to stay nice and sharp so far from my use, But I know Fiskars sells a Blade maintenance/Sharpening kit that i might just pick up somewhere down the line. Dead lawn and bad weeds? This thing still chews on through it all. If you've got bad sticky weeds, it'll still cut well, but cleaning the blades soon after would keep things cutting smooth and easy.
This reel mower is a excellent replacement for a gas or electric powered lawnmower and gets the job done just as efficiently without the pollution and fuel or electric costs. This real mower has a nice sharp blade that cuts quite efficiently and quickly and is lightweight and easy to maneuver when cutting small strips of grass in tight areas. The adjustable settings make it easy to customize the height of your grass as needed based on your preference. I would highly recommend this as an alternative to a gas or electric lawnmower and the cost is very affordable
I have a small lawn and little storage to keep a gas mower . I remembered as a kid using these and thought i would give it a try . Assembly was pretty easy and took maybe 15 minutes after putting on piece on backwards . To my surprise it was a lot easier to push the the ones from years ago . It cut very well and was able to cut my small front yard in under 5 minutes . Best of all it takes up a 1/4 of the space of a gas mower in my shed . Also good for some extra exercise .
I can not stop talking about this seventeen 17 inch manual push reel lawn mower by Fiskars! Right out the box, assembly was very straight forward and within ten 10 minutes of opening the box, I was cutting our grass. Our family requires very low maintenance tools and have been very frustrated with our gas powered lawn mower. It is always something that prevents us from being able to quickly get mowing with our gas powered one. Weather its out of gas, old gas, low oil or something with the carburetor(?), its always something. With having to hold down the bar on the gas one, hand fatigue really prevents us from being able to finish the front and back lawns in one shot. I cant believe how easy it was to mow our front and back lawns with this manual option. I don't think well ever go back to a gas powered option. My 6 year old even had fun with it, obviously after i stressed all the safety precautions with using this. She even begged to help mow once she saw how easy it was for me to use. Our South Florida lawn does have an issue with Sticker Burrs so i will probably need to upgrade to the eighteen 18 inch version that has the Grass Catcher bag to prevent spreading the seeds. This is the perfect solution for our family! I was unable to find anything written in the owners manual about blade maintenance so I have sent an email to the manufacturer for guidance.
Ideal lawn mower for small yard. But cuts real nice with several features to adjust the height. It saves the hassle of having to pull the string to start up a gasoline mower. I have no problem recommending this mower. Another good thing is that it's not real hard to put it together because the instructions with drawings are easy to follow. But you have to use some tools.
I am reviewing my recently delivered FISKARS 17" STAYSHARP PUSH REEL LAWN MOWER. I have been waiting for a completely dry day here in Florida to take this baby out for a spin, but the weather just wouldn't cooperate, so even with a wet lawn I decided to try it out! My first thought was that it's a lot heavier than one of my gas push mowers, but to my surprise, it was a dream to push. The cutting action is so smooth and calibrated to perfection, that I had a smile on my face the whole time. Even with the grass still wet from the last shower, it really cut nicely. I have included some before and after pictures, and it is clear to see that it made a definite difference in the grass. It doesn't get up close to a walk so you will still have to weed wack but this product is not sold as a weed walker after all. I am extremely proud of my new addition and am quite certain that it will do an even better job when the grass is dry. Especially this time of year when some certain spots grow faster than others, this will be a very handy mower to just pull out of the shed and roll with it! No checking oil, filling a regular mower up with gas, or hard to crack pull string mowers! Just get behind it and roll away.
I bought this with the intrest of saving gas and the environment a little. it worked great for the first few times and then the back wheel broke! it seems to be made of a cheap plastic. I cannot get any resolution from Walmart or fiskars from a broken wheel and am sad to say I am not able to use it when I need it most! Maybe they need metal rear wheels instead.
