It really is not tall enough with bottom legs folded to fit under a chair to reach over a person's lap. It barely comes to a person's knees and with the laptop computer on it, it is difficult for a person to reach the keyboard and no room left on the tray to put a mouse pad either or anything else. Even with all the legs extended, it is difficult to manage sitting in chair, which is the predominate reason I purchased the item. I like the looks of it and it seems well made. If the center legs had been made longer, it would be a very handy laptop computer desk for a person needing it to work on sitting in a chair. Have not tried it while in a bed, but to have it slide under the edge of a bed will be the same problem, middle legs are just not long enough. I hate the hassle of returning anything, so will figure out a way to jerry rig it someway so I can sit in my lift chair to work on my laptop computer. Walmart was very speedy with the delivery to my house. I am not able to get out to stores anymore and home delivery is a blessing. I would recommend it to anyone who only wants it for a bed tray only, but not to anyone who needs to use it sitting in a chair. The pictures of it shows being able to use it for many functions, but that would only happen if you were sitting in a very low chair and not one of normal seating height.
