I painted my garage floor years ago and it wasn't long before the tires on my cars began to rip up sections of paint. It occurred to me that the "hot tire pickup," as it's called, happens once the car is at rest and the recently used (and thus warm-to-hot) tires have a chance to stick to the painted surface while cooling down. It's actually upon the next outing that the damage occurs, not while driving the car into the garage. When I repainted my floor a second time around, I bought a 20 sq. ft. box of these tiles and laid them out such that I had two tiles under each of the front tires x two cars, and three tiles under each of the rear tires x two cars, for a total of 20. I purchased this second box to increase the overall area since different cars have different wheelbase lengths. and the wheel base shifts location if you back the car in versus drive in forward. When you apply these tiles, make sure you have a clean, dry relatively warm surface (I prep'd with a hair dryer for good measure) to promote best adhesion. BTW, Wal-Mart has THE best price around on these and with FREE shipping right to your door, how can you go wrong?
I purchase this floor 2 years ago and installed them in my 25yo garage. My 2 car garage leads directly into my family room which has black bamboo flooring. The amount of dust that would show up was a lot. It is our main entrance into our house. My floor was seal a couple of years after I bought the house. With the addition of the floor system the amount of dust was completely eliminated and now all I need to worry about is dust from road salt in the winter. This is taken care of by routinely rinsing the floor to remove the salt. This floor was relatively easy to install but difficult to cut. It looks fantastic after the 2 years. The only amount of marking that is permanent are the 4 darken spots from the tires but it is only a color change. I have dropped oil, paint etc onto my flooring and it wipes right up and doesn't leave a stain. Highly recommend.
Better than advertised. Easy to install. Did some preperation by finding out tips on how to lay tiles and had no problem.
Tread tile went down very easily. They look great & feel good on floor. I got a little off on my trimming, but that was my error. I am pleased with the tread & I would purchase more if I needed them. You can't beat the price!!!
The main problems with this product are cutting issues. (1) Tiles consistently are not square. Most are slightly rectangular. This can get out of hand really quickly as rows progress. Searching for the right tile for the right place can take a lot of time. (2) Many tiles are not cut vertically, but at an angle. (3) Some tiles are not cut straight, being slightly jagged, as if they were cut by dull equipment. Furthermore, some tiles weren't cut perpendicular to the pattern, resulting in a wavy rotated look – not good when looking across a long room. And don't waste your time trying to cut entire tiles with a utility knife, as recommended. You'll be crippled before you are half finished. Buy a fine tooth blade for your circular saw. Works great. Second biggest issue is pattern matching – or not. Tiles have arrows on the backing paper, but they are completely meaningless. Because of the cutting and size issues mentioned above, you can get into trouble very quickly. Following the arrows results in pattern matching sometimes and in randomness sometimes, which makes no sense. Why? Why? The pattern is poorly designed. If every tile was identical, installation would be child's play. Third issue: backing paper can be ridiculously hard to remove (FYI, black ones work better, white ones are impossible). After you've spent 10-15 minutes per tile chipping away at the paper with your finger nails, you'll be wondering why in the world you bought this stuff in the first place. Your fingers will be sore, and you will be in a very foul mood. OK, the very best thing about this tile is looks, but even that comes with a caveat. It scratches easily, and the very first time a car tire touches it, a yellow stain will result. Unacceptable. One final issue is that the cartons are not strong enough for the weight of the shipment. Mine came in three different shipments, but half of the cartons were damaged, and some of the tiles were damaged, too. I did a 1700 sq. ft. garage, so I invested a lot of time and money. If I had it to do over again, I wouldn't do it. Overpriced junk.
