A month ago I bought this laptop model, specifically in black. It comes well protected with anime and the necessary protective plastics, so you can rest easy when transporting it. It has a good screen, vivid colors, and the size is great. It is not heavy, so you can move it from side to side without losing your arms. The startup of the laptop is very fast so after pressing the power button you can start using it in about 6-7 seconds, which is always something to be appreciated. When I bought this laptop I did it looking for a team that would allow me to work creating content quickly and fluidly, something that it totally achieved. Something that helps is its battery, which in its normal distribution lasts about 6 hours. If you are looking to play, there are other teams that can give you better performance, as this is not designed for it. Sure, it can process light games and run them very well, but for others a little more demanding, its limitations will be noticed. Do you want to use it to watch series or movies? No problem! The image is sharp and the sound is great. Max volume is fine. Of course, if you want incredibly immersive sound, you should invest in a good pair of external speakers. If it is not necessary for you (like me) you have nothing to worry about: the laptop will do the job and you will not miss any detail. The only thing I'm not happy with is the top and the trackpad. They stain VERY easily with casual use, but the rest is an effective, attractive and very useful equipment. I would buy it again.
This is the 2nd computer I purchased on Walmart.com. So far I am happy with this computer. It runs quickly and I am able to open several tabs and run adobe illustrator and photoshop at the same time with hardly any lag which is amazing. If you are looking for a great computer for little money this one is it!
For the price, you could do a lot worse than this laptop. Some fairly low end components where it doesn't matter so much (keyboard, speakers, etc.). Screen is okay - the HDMI output is also just okay. I get HD resolution @ 60hz on my 2K 32" monitor. Good enough for my purposes. Performance is on par with other 11th gen i5 systems. The Iris Xe graphics chip is okay for what it is. The fingerprint scanner works mostly. I'm not a gamer but it does run GTA V smoothly with high visuals. Installed Fedora 35 and fell in love with this cheap laptop. It performs very well with a decent Linux system installed. Blender performance is solid. Decent machine.
Back to 1990s and 2000s, Gateway is a very trusted computer brand. I still remember my fellow classmate had a slim Gateway laptop while I carried a bulky Dell laptop around 2002 when we were in grad school studying computer science. I was jealous! However, sometime later, Gateway disappeared. Walmart brought it back recently selling the Brand's ultra slim laptops in very attractive price in different CPU, SSD, Screen configurations. Since then, many bought these Walmart tailored Gateway laptops and many nice comments were posted around. I read through them, the most attrative feature of the laptop to me is the easy expansion of storage. The laptop has two SSD storage slots, one internal that is only accessible when taking off the back cover, the other resides in a small chamber that is very easily accessible by users (see my picture with red circled out). The two SSD slots feature usually comes with expensive workstation class laptops, but Gateway brings it to me, and make it so simple to add an additional SSD (m.2 SSD ony, not PCIe NVME SSD)! I have the need in running two OSes in one computer so that I don't need to bring two laptops with me, but I don't want them reside together in one drive. This Gateway computer is perfect with such a low price! So when this latest model with 11th gen Intel Core i5 CPU comes to Walmart on sale, I bought one, install a PNY m.2 SSD to run Fedora Linux. I couldn't be happier! The laptop is slim, very light weight, and feels premium. It looks like the black Dell Inspiron 14 5000 in 2019. For this 11th Gen CPU series (maybe call it Gateway Ultraslim 14 Gen2), it has 5 different colors (black, green, blue, rose gold, silver), but I chose the black one. The case is plastic but sturdy. It features an Intel Core i5-1135G7 quadcore octathreads CPU, 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD. It comes with Intel AC9461 Wifi and a Blutooth, Realtek audio with THX tuned, Intel Xe graphic chip, 14" FHD 1080p LCD, webcam, it also come with Trusted Platform 2.0, fingerprint reader, 2 USB Type A ports, 1 USB Type C port, 1 HDMI port, and 1 microSD card slot which can support up to 512GB. But no Thunderbolt (the USB Type C port only supports data transfer, not charging, not display port), no backlit keyboard, and no IR camera. It runs on Window 10 Home. For the price less than $500, it is a fully featured laptop! Worth every dollar of the price. The laptop is manufactured by Acer, a very trusted brand, in China. I had used for a few days before I release this review. The computer works flawlessly. The keyboard feels good in typing. I am typing this review on this laptop in fact. However, the touchpad is kind of stiffy and hard to use, it fequently messes up the two-finger gestures. The LCD is vivi in color. The laptop is not hot and no fan noise at all for a few hours' use. The battery has no problem in supporting 8 hours use for a single charge so I don't have to bring adaptor when I go out. The laptop is very fast, it takes less than 8 sec
The new laptop we ordered had been previously used and had some strange hardware called “Great Wall” installed. I'd tell you what it was, except it was in Chinese. We returned this laptop without using it.
Brought this in May for a family member overseas and started using it in July. she had been using it for 2 months and is now receiving an error message every time she tries to power it on.
gateway 14.1 notebook was stuck for hours at "just a moment" on the initial set up. Tried resetting it, did the same thing. Called the help line 1(877)777**** (one that states don't return to purchase place) the call went to a message line asking for my name and e mail information. It has been six days without a reply. item returned back as defective to walmart. Did not like having to wait three weeks to get my $$ back after item was returned. will not be purchasing gateway products knowing that there is no initial service, in my opinion, they should have called me back within an hour, frustrating to receive a new product to just have it sit there. Hope this helps.
Gateway has been sold and is now a junk computer. I received my brand new laptop, it never worked and neither Walmart or Gateway will accept the return. Gateway tells me they have no technical support or supervisors and are not USA. Customer support from overseas told me never ever buy gateway…they are making absolute garbage and we are wasting our money.
So I went to open my laptop as normal and the dang screen fell out like how!?! I didn't drop it or carelessly handle it…The screen just decided to pop out on me I don't even know who to contact for this.
Purchased this unit with 512GB SSD drive for black friday. Unit is light, bright screen, mousepad makes a clicking sound. However, in early August the laptop screen started to separate from screen and now it is completely detached. I am so disappointed in the manufacturing quality given the screen separated within a year. Son is starting middle school and cannot use it and is so disappointed. walmart cannot help and working with Gateway on repair/return. Will update on how it goes.
