This is a very good computer. The speed of the computer is excellent. Like anything that is new, with a short learning curve, Windows 8 is not hard to learn and is easy to use. It has some nice new features.
In five years, I bought two (2) HP computers because they broke beyond repair and even though I had bought an extended warranty, wouldn't you know it the exact day after it expired the second one broke ! Since I had no luck with HP computers, I said to myself, "let's try Gateway." Well, I like the keyboard of the Gateway because the keys seem tighter than the what I felt were loose ones on the HP computers, but it is taking me awhile to get use to Windows 8 ( I must confess that I am a computer dummy). Other than these differences there are no differences in the way that they work. I just hope Gateway lasts longer than two or three years, especially since I do not use the computer except for pleasure.
This is an excellent and convenient laptop. Fast and capable. It can do and handle everything you'll expect. i have nothing negative to say about it... except for one comment: When typing, sometimes letters are skipped. i don't know if it's a "keyboard" flaw or a "program" flaw. Other than that, i'd recommend it. One other additional note: Unless you already have a spare one, don't forget to pick up a 32gb flashdrive when you buy this laptop (they forget to tell you that part).
It's incredibly fast, compared to my previous one -an HP Pavilion zv6000- and it has many more features. Windows 8 was a smack to the face and I thought I'd never get used to it. But I have figured it all out just by looking through it all. I would rather have Windows 7, but what can I do? 8 suffices. It's 15.6 inches, which is strangely portable for that size. Memory is fantastic, loads of it, and although I don't use mine for gaming, I'm sure you could do such to an extension on this laptop. It's a beautiful piece of machinery and I am happy with it, much happier because my old one was bashed up and dying painfully of its age. I would buy this laptop again, if I needed to, and the price is more than reasonable.
Excelent Laptop but not to happy with Window 8, many of the old software programs don't work, for example Yahoo Site Builder. This Window 8 is maybe good for smart phones and tables but not for PC's. Otherwise is a nice laptop with a great hard drive capacity and a decent process speed.
Laptop works pretty well. not the fastest machine but for the price i would say its a really good bargain. Only trouble i had was that the recovery partition was empty. So i was unable to make a recovery flashdrive or disc. However i called Gateway Customer Support and they agreed to send me a free copy of recovery cd.
Turning on the computer and trying to navigate the Windows 8 set up and registrations was to much of a challenge. I removed Windows 8 and installed Windows 7 and now have an outstanding computer. Very fast, beautiful screen display resolution, bright and large. The price at Walmart with the shipping to the home was the best I could find. The reason for the lower rating is that the computer came with Windows 8.
I am a college student and saving money is key in my life right now. I have an iPad4th gen and so far it does what I need it to do when it comes to reading, emails, and watching you tube entertainment per say. However I needed a real computer that I can do typing, organizing photos, a little spreadsheet and this computer has met those needs. It took me awhile to get used to the WINDOWS 8 but with a little practice it is not so bad. It is not a fast computer but it gets the job done and for the price its a good purchase. So if you are looking for value over performance I suggest you get this computer.
I bought this laptop mainly for the low price of $299 and have yet to be disappointed with it. It has a good enough processor (2.2 GHz Intel Pentium B960) and memory (4GB) to handle multitasking without slowing down the computer. Windows 8 runs completely smooth on it. The 750GB hard drive is a great size for a laptop to store all your files. The HDMI connection is great to hook to a TV for HDTV. I would definitely recommend this easy on the wallet laptop to anyone.
i would recommend this to a friend if it came with directions. however if you aren't computer savvy, the only thing you would know is how to plug in the power source. i had a gateway computer before and loved it. however it came with a manual--------WOW WHAT A CONCEPT!
