At first, I was kind of skiddish when I ordered the laptop since it said it was refurbished. But when I got it, oh my gosh!!! It looked totally brand-new, was packaged perfectly, and not a scratch on it! Everything worked very smoothly and it has a lot of features like a dual-layer dvd drive that were not even mentioned... Thus, this laptop is a great value and definitely exceeds my expectations! Thank you, Walmart*!!!!! :-D
So far this computer has been a good value for the money. The Microsoft Office 2010 Started Edition that comes loaded is fine for basic word processing and spreadsheets, but I had to install my 2007 Student Edition because the Starter doesn't use macros. Other than that, I really haven't had any complaints, but we really haven't had a chance to use it much since we got it.
For the price, I could not find a better deal for a Core i5 laptop. It is really fast in a real world environment also, much faster than a B950 that I have (Which is new, has the same amount of RAM and also runs Windows 7). That was expected and the expectation was met. Pros: nice keyboard, bright LCD, quiet, fast Con: exterior had several deep scratches, and a lot of surface scratches. I have owned several refurbs before and some small signs of wear are expected, but this had more than I have seen. Not worth exchanging- was sealed in Gateway box so exchanging could net one better or worse. I am happy with this unit based on price and performance.
I've been looking for a fast laptop that can run graphic design programs, music editing software, and some computer games for a price of $500 or less. Thankfully, this computer is first, under $500 before taxes and shipping and second, works flawlessly for me on both video games and other high performance software. I've been able to run multiple programs at once without a single drop in speed. The processor and graphics have worked really well on games like Simcity: Societies, Company of Heros, Empire: Total War, and has enough power to play even newer games! This laptop is as fast/powerful as a laptop that's about $800 to $700. I've spent a lot of time looking for something like this from multiple suppliers and Walmart has the best deal. I've had the laptop for about a month now with no problems. I've seen problems with other laptops (specifically Acer) where the keys fall off or break easily, but that isn't the case here because the keys are firm. The screen is nice and clear, and the mouse pad is very responsive and firm as well. The wi-fi won't give you any problems. The only problem I have with this laptop remains in its camera. Sadly, this camera doesn't take HD video and the built-in microphone sounds awful! I tired recording myself playing guitar and singing...it didn't turn out well enough for me to post on facebook or youtube. However, the camera would work well enough for Skype chats. One other thing I felt I should mention, I was accidentally sent the wrong cable to charge this thing. Thankfully I had one available at home anyway and was able to charge the battery which was already charged halfway. I know this isn't the product's fault, but I'm sure this could have been resolved if I had contacted Walmart. Overall, I am very pleased with this laptop. Any of the problems that may be experienced can be fixed for a few dollars which is better than the alternative: buying a laptop for $200 more! I highly recommend you purchase this if you want something that will run most applications and games for cheap.
I own a two month old Gateway product. From the day I received it it has been nothing but awful. For instance when I am creating a document in MS Word if I have the Windows Media Player on it will produce a high pitched whine and locks up the entire system. At other times the cursor will mysteriously jump from the paragraph I am working on to some other location on the document. I have spoken with gateway customer care on more times that I care to mention. Gateway did offer to repair the machine but I must purchase a shipping container along with packaging material. Additionally, I will be without the maching any where between two weeks to a month. On the other hand, when my HP Laptop went down while still under warranty I was sent out a replacement within forty-eight hours. In my professional opinion Gateway products are not worth the money any customer puts out for their products. I will never have another gateway productin my house for the remainder of my lifetime.
