This water filter is specific to certain kinds of refrigerators. I checked several retailers before buying and was able to find it the cheapest at Walmart. This filter is easy to install, just pull off the wrapper and screw it into the filter spot in your refrigerator. It lasts 6 months and is a definite must for clean water and ice.
Be careful if you buy walmart Brand. On the box it says GSFW when in fact it is MSFW as shown on the filter itself, which is a different size and may not work on your frig. The MSFW will not activate the water valve. I returned the filter for this model GE gswf. It was very confusing until I caught the error.

it is very difficult to remove and also to make that last turn to install. Even for a male helper, he needed to have the aid of a plyers to install. For someone with arthritic hands, it is impossible without using plyers or maybe not be able to install or remove, period! Other than that it does a good job at purifying the water. I like the taste of my refrigerator water so much better than the from the tap.
Picked it up at the store, just wished that they carried it on the shelves as they use to. Ordering meant waiting till it came in, about a week from date of order.
I got this after the off brand replacement I bought online was garbage and didn't work. I needed one fast and Walmart had it for roughly the same price as other places and I was able to pick it up at the store for free shipping. Worth
This filter is easy to install and provides better filter specs than the after-market copies. I shopped many sites and found the best price here. The price was lower than the after market copies and is definitely higher quality.
The shoulders inside the filter are shorter than earlier iterations. The latest filter won't fully actuate the water valve. I added some o-rings to make up the difference and got it to work. The latest are labeled GSWF but have MSWF in the description.
Great price so I ordered the product, two filters....arrived the very next day ....wow!!! Both filter boxes were opened, one filter had foil wrap on top missing , the second filter had foil wrap peeled back......what a disappointment....returned them to store....they took them back no problem.....just a waste of time...really wish they arrived in good condition.....oh well
