This product installed easily and as directed. It has been in use for over a year and has proved reliable and trouble free. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
This filter is being installed im my camper as a replacement for one that froze and cracked. (my fault) Installation is fairly simple and doesn't take much space. Water flow is not great but it's only used for drinking water. My biggest concern is the seemingly high cost of replacement filters. That seems to be true of any product that needs periodic replacement. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Other than the reduced flow rate, I really have no problems with this filter. I have been using the the best filter which is the FXUVC and it does kill the flow rate. But I'd rather have thoroughly filtered water. My fridge came without a built in filter so I hung one of these in my basement to supply it. If I ever make a little mess changing the filter, I'd rather it be in my basement rather than my kitchen. Since it's only supplying my icemaker and occasionally filling a glass, the flow rate doesn't bother me. If I really want to increase flow rate, I've even thought about installing 2 or 3 units in parallel. More cost for filters, but the flow rate would double or triple.
I bought the GX1S01R filter specifically because of the ADVERTISED flow rate. There are 3 filters for this unit under the GE brand that specify them as replacements for the GX1S01R unit. I bough the mid-line filter (FXULC). The flow rate ... awful. Now I read the "questions", whereby the GE rep indicates we should only be using the FXUTC filter, which is worthless. Should have gone with a different unit. GE should mention that little fact on the box for the GX1S01R filter. Unfortunately, this only becomes known after the installation.
I installed the filter housing with the recommended filter. Unfortunately, the unit leaked around the O-ring seal. It appears that the filter was a little too long and, hence, cannot properly seal the filter housing.
Will no seal after 3 years. Have to replace. Very disappointing.
This product does not belong on the shelves. Leaks at the O-ring like others said no matter how hard I tried to tighten it. Flow was measured at .5 gallons/min.! I cant believe how much time i wasted on this. The one time i didnt read the reviews before purchase!
Be aware that when using this filter, your flow rate goes from 4 gallons/minute to .5 gallon/minute. It's a ridiculously slow water flow! This is not a usable product. The other filter they recommend will increase the flow to slightly more than 1 gallon/minute, but it doesn't remove all the same things from your water.
Brand new install, even installed a pressure reducer because I did not know how much water pressure is in my lines. Water leaks out of the filter canister at any water pressure level.
