a slow and reliable charge the battery....great for emergencies
Used my escape 150s single 15 watt solar panel attched to this unit, and put two 12 volt marine lead acid batteries in parallel onto it. Within 1 hour the batteries were at 12.5 volts, and reached 12.95 by 4 hours! This unit will be able to keep our camper fully charged daily wherever we go. I now have two 15 watt panels, so the escape 150 and my camper will be able to be charged during the day, and have power during the night. Very impressive unit.
I travel on an adventure motorcycle and the charge controller allows me to charge the battery on the motorcycle. Along with the Nomad 13.5 the whole system gives me 12 volt independence.
I hooked it up to 2 15watt goalzero boulder modules, charges an 18ah battery in short order if the battery is only depleted to 75-80% state of charge
I connected the controller to four boulder 30 solar panels and to my motorhome house batteries (four 6 volt deep cycle). The panels were connected at 7:30 am and all batteries were charged by 3:00 pm. This is a great product!
i usethis when camoing to keep battery on travel trailer charged and back up with Yeti
Used with the 13.5 watt panel and it charged the AGM battery on my 4x4 quad in fairly rapid time without having to use a generator
This will charge any lead-acid battery from almost any solar panel(s). It has the special high performance charging cycle to maximize battery life and power. Only fault is the small current drain from the battery (about 13 milliamperes) when connected in the dark.
My relationship with Goal Zero products dates back many years and includes the original charge controller, which for the record, is poor. The new Guardian is a well thought through design, well made and works as described. Includes a quality 3 stage lead acid charger and provides essentially "storage" charging ideally for infrequently used devices/vehicles (ag equipment, yard/garden devices, RV, etc.). Supports both 4.7 & 8 mm inputs from small & large GZ panels. For future versions please consider switchable 6v/12v to support common 6v batteries found in many ag & yard applications. Also, the ability to extend the distance between battery and Guardian would be great for applications where the Guardian needs to be placed out of the weather.
I use this for maintaining a car battery and charging a lead-acid battery to power off-grid research equipment. The interface is a bit confusing; it has one blinking pattern when connected to measure the charge on a battery and another blinking pattern when actually charging with a panel. Why not just put a battery icon showing amount of "fill" like those on some of the power packs?
