Thirty years after the Heckler report brought national attention to the health disparities problem in 1985, the plight of minorities and underserved populations remains one of our most urgent public health challenges, though much progress has been made. Health disparities have since gained national and global attention among thought leaders in medicine, public health, biomedical research and public policy.
