Im glad I broke done and bought the Nest Smoke
We own a vacation rental property. We use these alarms to monitor smoke and carbon monoxide remotely as well as provide our guests with protection from dangerous situations.
Super easy to set up. I got the battery powered option and so far it's worked great. Really like the night light that comes on when it detects someone walking nearby in the dark.
Bought three of these for my home. They are awesome. VERY easy to install. Just have to turn off the breaker and twist some wires together with wire nuts. I'm not a DIY guy, but I figured this out. I like these because with smoke detectors you usually have to pick 1 of the two types of smoke-detecting technology -- however these nests have BOTH. also a carbon monoxide as a bonus. They last for 10 years so that is great as well. Finally, they do speak to each other so you can be notified of smoke in basement when you are in the second story.
Be careful. A Nest Smoke Alarm has a 10 year life. The one I bought from Walmart was laying on the shelf for 4 years which means I only have 6 years out of the 10 year life span. After the 10 year mark Nest will alert you to replace. I then bought direct from google and the detectors were only 2 weeks old.
Easy set-up of the two I bought within the Nest app. Best feature is the night light that comes on to help you see your way in the house at night. And loud enough for emergency situations. Different languages are selectable and other options. This is a 2nd generation protect for as long as 10 years or more.
Definitely a very nice smoke & carbon monoxide alarm. Very easy to set-up. Works great with my Amazon Alexa system. I would recommend. I will be getting the thermostat next.
The installation was straightforward with easy to follow instructions. I had an issue connecting Protect to my home network; had to unplug my WiFi extender before it would correctly connect to network. Once connected, plug back in extender and everything has been working since.
Installation was a breeze with the provided hardware and the trouble-free app making the network connection. I can understand the limitation on the battery-powered, model, but I wish the wired model's path light was a bit stronger; I could retire the nightlight in the hallway if it were. Great pricing at Sam's Club -- this item borders on being too expensive given that you need to replace them every 10 years or so, and you need to have so many to cover a larger home.
These last 10 years but mine was 3 years old when opened new. But nowhere on the outside of the box is a manufactured date. Additionally it is still not supported in the google home app and has to accessed with nest app. Other than that it works as advertised.
