I buy the frozen cod all the time. We find it as good as the fish store. I think it's a great value and if you know how to cook it shouldn't be any problem. Defrost it on a rack so the water drains out and you'll get it perfect every time.
When thawed and set out on paper towel, it was a low moisture cod and held the batter well. If you use a tspn of baking soda and club soda instead of water, it will turn out just like Long John Silvers batter.
I was a fisherman for many years and has fresh cod all the time, we tried this cod and I was so surprised it had no smell and handled like fresh cod and was excellent texture and taste, I don't understand the 1 star reviews I can't wait to get more and hope for the same result flounder up next
Horrible....they are full of water that you have to basically squeeze out of them and all thatâs left is a few bites that are extremely fishy tasting. Blah
I donât think this is cod, poor quality! Bones still in cuts. I would not call them fillets. Package only contained the worst parts of a fillet. Worst fish I have purchased from Walmart. If you like fish donât buy great value cod, it is the scrap that is left from trimming fish fillets, it has a strong odor also
I would give it zero stars if I could. The fish was horrible. I cooked it and it was mushy as if it wasn't cooked. I cooked it even longer than it was supposed to be. I have never had this problem with cod. It was like it was bad. Never will buy again.
I bought this because of the "so called fisherman's" 5 star review that said it was just like the cod they use to catch. BS!! This is absolutely the worst fish I have ever ATTEMPTED to eat. It was yellow and mushy and just horrible! I have eaten the Great Value frozen Talapia many times and it's not bad, as the reviews show. But this Pacific "sustainable" frozen Cod has to be getting ruined somehow in the processing, freezing procedure because fresh Cod is fantastic fish. Anyone who thinks this is 5 star fish doesn't know what good fish is! Believe the 5 star review if you want but don't say you weren't warned.
Tried these as well as the others like it. When cooked they also shrank to less........ than half their size!!! Taste is ok, but, man so..... upset they almost disappeared.......... in the oven/pan!!
It had a awful smell and taste salty. I wasn't able to continue to eat it, I became sick. Literally nauseated. It's been about three hours later and I still don't feel well from eating that nasty cod. Unbelievable!!! I will NEVER BUT COD AGAIN FROM WALMART !
This is the worst fish I have ever cooked and the worst way to spend $20. . It's watery and mushy. Will never buy it again.
