I'm eating these as I write this and they are absolutely delicious. I didn't even rinse the peas. Just added the bag with a ham shank and chicken stock to sautéed onion, carrots and parsnips to an instant pot and the flavor and heat is perfect for a cold Sunday afternoon. Topping the bowl with a Red Lobster biscuit and they are even better. I just need to adjust my technique since everything came out too mushy as this was my first time preparing them this way.
The directions say not to soak these and to cook them 20-25 minutes. If you don't want them crunchy you'd better plan on 35-45 minutes but they are good when you do get them done.
Makes a great pea soup but I do cook it 1 hour longer than the directions show as I do not like hard peas
These split peas are very clean. Wonderful taste. I prepared them right after I received them with ham or bacon with other ingredients . After they are cooked (about an hour) I put the mixture in the blender and the freeze in ziplocks. If anyone has eaten at Anderson's restuants in CA, that is is receipe I use.
GV split peas area good quality and have never let me down when making split pea soup. I haven't found any unwanted debris is this product and I have been using it for several years.
I mean, they're dried peas. It's what you do with them that matters. Having said that, if I can't tell the difference between these and the name brands, then they have to be good quality.
They didn't seem like they were too old, cooked up very nice and great flavor. I don't use any meat products and never missed them. These are some fantastic peas. Slow cooker on high for 5 hours and some bottled water, some carrots and onions, a little soul food seasoning and some delicious thick soup. The next day it was very thick, so I heated it up in the microwave and made a sandwich with the pate and a slice of tomato on a toasted kaiser bun. Aaahhhh, hit the spot! Didn't waste a pea!
Great Job, Walmart! Appreciate your ongoing initiatives to help hard working Americans saving money! Quality is good too! My family loves Green Peas Soup! According to the healthline, “Green peas contain a decent amount of heart-healthy minerals, such as magnesium, potassium and calcium.” One request, please add ‘Where was it grown' info!
The last several bags of split peas have been excellent! However, last year I got some that would not soften after hours of soaking and cooking. I don't know why the difference? Perhaps the age of the product or the crop? If they continue to cook so well, I would raise the score to five stars!
Received 2 out of 4 ordered. One of the 2 was busted open during shipping. Order was in a box big enough to hold a shop meant of Sams Club toilet tissue. Way too big.
