Very Good!!!
I'm very picky and do not like ordering something like this online...BUT this is the best set of knives I have ever owned. I use at least two of the prep knives a day in my cooking and they are still just as sharp today as they were the day i got them. The one big thing that suprprised me was that with very little effort I have been able to cut up raw chicken, pork, roasts, sausages, every meat i've cut. When i say little effort I mean that I only used one clean cut for each piece instead of making three or four cutting motions per slice. They fit very nicely in my hand and are the most comfortable knives I've used as well.
The product looks great. The knives are lightweight and well-balanced. On the other hand, knives aren't sharp. The depth of the handle also makes it difficult to cut with the knives. Also, a 6" utility knife would come in handy. Sometimes you just need this size knife instead a big one. The angle, the knives are sitting at in the block, makes it impossible to remove them if you have them under the cabinets (unless you have really tall cabinets). I don't know yet if I will return them, but probably yes. Hope this helps.
knives should be sharp when they come out of the box. Both santoku knives were not that sharp, and I've tried them on several kinds of veggies and fruits. However, the Chef's knife, the Slicer, the Paring knife, and all 6 steak knives were very sharp and impressive in cutting raw meats, steaks and veggies. The serrated Utility knife is excellent for tomatoes and breads. The presentation of the knives in this block looks professional and takes up little space. But I also could not draw out a knife when the block was under the top cabinets. These knives are balanced with just enough weight, and have full tang. When using the Slicer (my favorite for raw meats), my knuckles occasionally hit the work surface. The other knives don't seem to cause that problem. These are NOT dishwasher friendly. The insert does not recommend using the dishwasher because "quality steel should be hand washed"--in reality I've found washing them this way fades the black on the handle. Durability could be better too; there are already scratches on the sides of the blades from silverware hitting them in the sink--I've had these only 2 months. These would make a good wedding present for a young couple or for a frugal individual. This set has the essentials plus the frills of having Santoku knives and a sharpener. But in a few years, they will probably need replacing.
