this worked perfect since I received it 5 days ago I cached 1 foxsquirell , and 3 regular squirell. I used as bate bird food and it worked out perfect I only need to catch 1 more.
It took a while a few attempts to set the trap so that the mildest of weight set it off - prior to that the rabbit entered the trap, ate the apple and left. Once the system was mastered I solved my rabbit problem and no animal died or suffered. Simple design but effective.
Perfect for large squirrels. Got the one we've been trying to trap for months on the first day we put this trap out.
Very good product
When I received this it had a defect that kept it from operating correctly. I was able to make some adjustments that allowed it to operate correctly, but in doing so I noticed that either it was damaged in shipping or during manufacture which caused the problem. The problem that I encountered was that the door would catch on the wires on the side of the opening so that the door would not close when the trap was sprung. I fixed it by adjusting the pivot points on the door. After I had done that I noticed that the sides of the trap were not straight. There was a slight bend that caused the door to catch on the wires of the trap.
First day grey squirrel easy to set and release. Had another brand somewhat large trap (advertised as small) would not trigger for small animals ,did trap a skunk(shut the trap at night). Would recommend to a friend-good product and good price and 2 day delivery from walmart.
While this trap is solidly constructed, I have to say it has been a complete failure as far as its purpose goes. I purchased it specifically to catch some squirrels and it has failed to achieve that purpose. The squirrels rarely set it off for some reason; and when they do--they manage to escape! The only thing I've trapped is a poor bird trying to get some peanut butter. although advertised as a squirrel trap used by professionals, it has been a complete failure in that regard.
The trigger system/plate is not sensitive enough for the weight of a squirrel. While I have now trapped 10 squirrels, each time I had to be observing the squirrel in the trap eating the bait and then startle him with a large noise. Only his reaction to the noise creates enough pressure to engage the trigger. When the trigger is set and the squirrel enters the trap without my observation, he steps on the trigger plate, gets the nuts, and I assume, walks out happy.
Squirrels can get the cup full of bait behind the trigger mechanism without tripping the door. I've had many squirrels get the bait, have yet to catch one.
i would bait the trap and every night morning the bait was gone and the trap never sprung. The trigger is to deep into the trap. the squirrels would eat the bait and never have to hit the trigger. Very poor design.
