I don't know who likes this best in the family .. our 9 yr. old, 18 yr. old or my husband. They take a little practice to learn how to operate them. I wouldn't recommend for younger children because it would probably be frustrating. However, they are tons of fun and have lasted through many crashes already. We think the price is really good for such an item. Similiar items sale for twice as much.
After reading other reviews my 4year old son is alot smarter than most people. He and his dad had a blast the day after christmas. If you can read the instructions and have common sense anybody can fly it. It wasnot expensive to me compared to a 600.00 radio controlled heli when I was a kid.
My 14 year old son requested this gift thinking he could play with his older brother or his father with it. It took a little adjusting to get it to fly properly and it is difficult to actually shoot the other helicopter but they seem to be having fun with it. It is challenging enough for the 14 year old but yet easy enough for my 5 year old daughter to fly. My 5 year old can't shoot anyone but she loves flying it. So far, many crashes later, there have been no broken pieces yet.
This was a fun toy but expensive for the quality. The gear came loose on one of the propellers when it crashed. We had to cut it apart to fix it and then taped it back together. Also, the other helicopter would not respond well to the commands given by the remote control and made very wide turns (the other one made sharp turns). Overall the kids liked the way the two helicopters could "stun" each other by shooting at each other in the air and make the opponent fall to the ground. Just a little expensive I thought for the quality of the product.
While these are extremely easy to learn on, they are no substitute for a far more expensive indoor micro beginner heli. I've been through the Havoc and the Reflex, returning them due to production-site defects. For the most part, the battery life was much shorter in all cases. Just because the company asks you to not return the product, return it. I highly recommend doing an internet search for the highest-rated and recommended micro heli. The Air Hogs are a nice novelty item, but that's it. Most will recommend the Blade mCX. It's about 4x the cost of this set, but the stability will definitely increase your competency as a beginner rc heli pilot. Buying cheap is appealing, especially right now. Just remember, you get what you pay for. Do a youtube search for "Nightflyyer." The fellow is extremely competent and fair in his reviews. He's reviewed the Reflex and "Taoistflier" has reviewed the Havoc and Picoo Z. Just remember that those guys are very good pilots. One final note: if you're wanting this toy to last, hope that it doesn't break. Parts are much harder to obtain for the Air Hogs than another quality micro like the mCX. The reason being that most local hobby shops carry the model and carry parts for it.
We purchased this product for our 8 year old son for Christmas and it was fun while it lasted. Once we finally got a handle on controlling the units the units lasted for about 2 days before both helicopters were broken. Very expensive for the quality as they are extremely fragile as well as the charge does not last long.
My son saw these advertised on TV and wanted nothing else for Christmas. I was astounded upon their arrival at how cheap they seemed for what they cost. My son learned to fly them quicker than we expected, but he had the inevetitable crash on carpeted areas. Within 2 days of play, 1 won't fly at all and the other seemed "impaired". I would not purchase a similar product again, and I'm sending a letter to the manufacturer.
This is the biggest waste of money. this was my son's biggest wish for christmas and he is totally disapointed. It does not perform as advertised and definitely NOT suitable for indoor play. We did all of the trouble shooting and still could not make them fly or do the laser tag thing. Very cheaply made and extremely fragile. PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR $$$$$!
Very tough to try to learn to control. After a couple of hours the rear rotor started to come off, and finally it caused the inevetable crash that rendered the thing useless. The tail snapped and the thing struggled on the floor like a fly with 1 wing. The commercials lead you to believe you can fly this thing like an expert, but is much more diffucult. If a 30-something man can't learn to fly it, how do you expect a kid to? Way to expensive for the thing to just "crash and burn"
My 8 year old son wanted this from Santa this year. Santa delivered it and he was thrilled. After a short time, he and his 42 year old father were no longer able to play with it because it was broken. Meanwhile, they never even got to use the laser part of it. I think that this is very poorly constructed and breaks extremely easy. Even the 42 year old was not careful enough to keep it from breaking.
