The unit is tall and does not create much of a footprint. The three speed design permits turning the speed down to a quieter setting at night. The unit was purchased to help improve the air quality in an apartment that has been "sealed up" for cold weather. There are much more expensive units with electronic filters that only need cleaned. This unit does have a removable foam filter (much like that of an air conditioner -- only smaller) that can be occasionally rinsed. The main attraction for me was a separately switchable ultraviolet chamber to kill germs. The HEPA filter within the unit is easy to remove and relatively inexpensive to replace. The manufacturer suggests once per year. For those like me on a fixed income, this seems to be an excellent choice for smaller apartments.
I love this air purifier. I breathe so much better when I use it, and I started using it 24/7 about 18 months ago. It's still running like a champ. I just bought a second one. It's small enough to be unobtrusive but cleans the air for a large area. (My bedroom. I estimate 15 X 15.) I bought the second one for my home office. It's easy to maintain. The filter is a two-piece unit that's easy to change. The controls are simple. It's beside my bed, so I can hear it running at night. It's not loud enough to be bothersome though. I have a large hairy cat with a large litter box, and allergies. This small unit handles the whole room well, and I look forward to the same results in my office. Note: my living room/ kitchen area is massive, and my daughter purchased a large unit as a gift, so I don't know how large an area this smaller unit could handle. I highly recommend this item.
I purchased this for a medium-sized bedroom. There is some leakage of some sort from the heating system (forced air) which had been making me wake up with a slight sore throat and tight chest almost every morning. I turn it on a few hours before going to sleep and let it run all night. And I feel much better now. The air whir sound is slightly loud at the highest setting but I have an extreme sensibility to noise when trying to go to sleep. So I just use ear plugs and that solved that matter.
Really happy with this purchase. I have allergies which sometimes disrupts my sleep. Since putting this purifier in my room I no longer wake up with congestion and stuffiness.
Ever since I moved into my new apartment, I've been waking up wheezing and coughing from some kind of indoor allergen. After cleaning exhaustively to no benefit, I decided to purchase one of these Allergen Removers to see if it made a difference. In short - drastic change for the better! After running this in my room for less than 24 hours, I was already waking up far healthier and I have continued to breathe easy in my bedroom since, though I'm about to sue my landlord because he's unwilling to pay to remove the mold in our ventilation system. After a few weeks of solid use I would highly recommend this product to any allergy & asthma sufferer.
Its very be quiet I can tell the difference I just plugged it and about 2 hours later and it seems to be doing very well it's going to hide and not loud I love it and I will keep it updated and let you guys know how it works out so far I like it
I like the tower style of this versus the style that seems to take up more table space horizontally. This has an ionizer function that you can turn off and I keep that off. The three speeds are nice, actually works nice for people who enjoy solid white noise to sleep by. It accepts brand-name and offbrand aer-1 filters. This unit was purchased to replace another Holmes tower style air purifier that was well over 15 years old. That's what led me to go back to this brand. I consider 15 years a solid life for this type of product that has been used almost continuously during thattimeframe.
I purchased two of these air purifiers, they are good for small rooms, 9x9 feet. They seem to do a good job as we have a several cats and I am allergic to dust that collects on the cat hair and dander. I purchased this model as it has a true HEPA filter, an ionizer than has an on and off switch and a similar larger size Holmes purifier did very well in the Consumer Reports reviews. (CU did not review this specific model. Many other brands did very poorly on the CU tests.) I have had it for a month, it seems to work well. My allergy is better now. (Also have been vacuuming more often with definitely helps.) Overall, I am happy and ordered two more for my other rooms - I think it is better to have two small ones as opposed to one large one, the large ones are noisy and sound like a jet is taxing in your living room. The HEPA filters are $30 for two and they last for year or so. Definitely worth the extra cost to go with the true HEPA filters to get the deep micro cleaning they do - if you go with a cheap washable filter, you are not getting the same benefit. The purifier has three speed settings, I run them at high during the day and medium or low at night - I think the high speed does the deepest cleaning. Medium and low are not very noisy and can be used while sleeping, high seems a little loud for sleeping. It would be nice if they had timers, I may buy some wall socket timers - I think running them on high during the day would be fine. They are made to be ran continuously so you dont need to worry about them wearing out. It has a five year warranty too.
I am very satisfied with this small Holmes Air Purifier. My old one lasted years before becoming inefficient. This is a great replacement. I can notice the difference already. I will probably never use the ionizer. I like that this washable filters thicker than the old one. It fits in nicely with my decor, it's a pretty white. It's very quiet. I wish it had an on/off indicator light, but for the price I can live with it.
I decided on this one of the many to choose from because the price was right and you don't have the filters to change often. It blows cool air. Wasn't expecting that. I guess during summer months that won't be a problem. It seems to be doing something so I'm generally pleased with my purchase. It does make sound, low setting is not so noticeable but high setting is noticeable and I end up turning it off after a while. I'm a little nervous about the iso issues I read about so I seldom use that feature. The air is better and that was the point of the whole matter.
