The only complaint I have about this sound machine is that you can not turn off the lights on the buttons when using, I like the room to be totally black...no lights. So I have to put a washcloth or hanky folded over the buttons. It is great for volume control. I had bought the Dohm sound machine and it was pretty one volume. I do not want it real loud but soft. This one does it all.
In looking into this I was hesitant because of the negative reviews, mainly the ones about it shutting off in the middle of the night. If you mess with the timer buttons and then set them to no timer it will still shut off in the night, if you just don't touch the timer buttons it goes all night no issues. As for the people complaining about the light being on they must have an older model, this one only has about 15 seconds after you touch the last button and the light all shut off. The sounds are great, there are the four styles and you can adjust the tone on all of them with a wide range, as with most people calm does seem to be the right pitch for us. If you can't tell the difference between the different settings and tones then there is either something wrong with your device or the devices you are using to hear the machine. And yes, this is basically a static machine, different tones and frequencies, if you wanted something with rain sounds or forest sounds buy a cd player and those discs they have had around since the 90's, this is a white noise machine, funny how it says that in the description. Great product and I am just ordering two more, one for each of my kids room, will mimic the fans perfectly and eliminate having a fan blowing in the winter months.
I've been using this product for almost 2 weeks now. First off, whether you purchase it in the store or online as a gift, it comes very well packaged. There's no way it will get banged up or damaged. Secondly, I was quite surprised with how user friendly and easy the set up was. Though it offers the option to use batteries, I chose to just plug it in. It has pre-set timers on it to shut off after 30, 60 or 90 minutes. You have 4 different sounds to choose from and on top of that you can choose the tone of those 4 sounds so the possibilities are endless. One option is Soothe. This one to me sounds like a light rain with a little wind. The Mask option sounds like a harder rain and windy. My husband prefers the relax option because he says I snore. With the machine on that setting he does not hear my alleged snoring at night. My personal favorite is the Calm option. It reminds me of constant waves at the beach or a stormy rainy night that makes you just want to cuddle and get warm. What's nice is that I used to use a fan to make noise. That's not really ideal in the winter time. This device has so many options to choose from! My daughter has friends over and I use it in her room as well. It's calming to them. The design of the machine is such that it sits comfortably with the speaker raised to project in any direction you like while not disturbing someone on the other side if they are watching a movie, etc. I would like to add that I use a CPAP machine at night to sleep and I can't even hear it anymore over the deep(sleep machine. So don't worry if you have a CPAP machine, you will still get the full benefit of the calming sounds. This uses less energy than a fan and extremely portable.
This machine is awesome for any light sleeper. You can adjust the white noise to drown out specific sounds while not being unnecessarily loud. Perfect for nights when my husband's cpap mask isn't fitting properly!
I work at night and have to get my sleep during the busy day. Outside and inside noise can keep me up easily just because its daytime. This thing does just what i need and i find myself out fairly quickly.
A summer or two ago my husband and I found the sound of the fan in the bedroom very soothing. So, until this unit we had the fan on regardless of the weather. Now we don't have to! This little item does the job and does it well! It is illuminated so you can see all the buttons night or day. It is also customizable. It has a sleep timer so you can set it for 30 60 or 90 minutes. You can also leave it on continuously - the choice is yours. It has noise tones : Soothe - the one we prefer, Mask - blocks outside noise, Relax - blocks snoring and Calm - the dee[est tone and good for small children. You can adjust the sound by pressing the tone button up or down by pressing and holding the '-' symbol to add bass and the '+' to remove bass. The volume is adjusted by pressing the '+' or '-' buttons. It also comes with a one year limited warranty. We hope you enjoy yours as much as we enjoy ours!
This is the first white noise machine I have used. The controls light up and are very self-explanatory. First is the power button – the controls have a blue glow when the unit is on. The volume goes from very quiet to loud enough to mask most common noises. There are four different white noise sounds to choose from, and I wish they were easy to describe, but they are not. They make me think of light rain, crashing surf, wind blowing through trees – but the sound is very consistent and smooth. The tone button allows you to adjust each of the four white noise sounds. The timed feature is perfect for napping and has 30, 60 or 90 minute options. The design is subtle so that it doesn't distract from your other décor. Its size is perfect to fit on a nightstand, dresser or what-have-you. One design suggestion that would be an improvement would be to have some way of dimming or turning off the lighted buttons. I like a really dark room, as I would surmise most people prefer as well. This is the reason I took away one star. I'm not sure how white noise works, but I know it helps me sleep. After a few trial sessions to test out the different sounds, I finally settled on Calm. Falling asleep usually comes easier and faster when it's on - I think it helps quiet the thoughts racing through my mind as it does the external distractions. The instructions suggest where to place it in the room, to best suit your needs. On the floor near the foot of the bed works best for me, and diffuses the light from the buttons as well. The value of this product is excellent – good sleep is priceless.
The volume control is definitely loud enough to drown outside sounds. The sound settings are all very similar but all I wanted was white noise so I am still okay with it. It was a bit pricier than I was looking for but the Homedics Brand is always reliable. All in all, a very good sound machine.
The Homedics White Noise machine has been a great addition to our home! My husband is a relatively light sleeper and easily wakes up during the night if there are any disturbances. Thus, we wanted to give this white noise machine a try and we are so glad we did!! There are 4 sound options on the machine with varying volume levels. The 4 white noise spectrum include: soothe, mask, relax, and calm. Per the box, these are the description for the different white noise spectrum: 1) Soothe: relaxes and eases your mind, the highest in pitch, 2) Mask: effectively blocks external distractions including noisy neighbors & traffic, 3) Relax: modulated to disrupt interfering room noise, such as snoring, and 4) Calm: the deepest of all tones- perfect for tinnitus sufferers or small children. My husband and I have been using the “calm” setting and it has worked well for us. Based on our experience, the sound quality of this noise machine is better than what we got from an app on our phone. The white noise machine has excellent range of settings, allows us to set the tone, it has a blue back light and it also has a timer. Overall, it looks and feels great. The mesh design on the speakers are nice too. There are just two reasons why we gave it 4 stars. The first reason is that the machine measures around 6”x6”, so it does take up a little bit of room on your night stand. It would be nice if it was a bit smaller, but that is just our preference. And the second reason is due to the price. It appears to be a bit pricey, but we don't know enough about white noise machines, so we don't have anything to compare it with. Overall, my husband and I both think this is a great product! It helped improved our sleep. For him, as a light sleeper, he feels like he is getting more quality sleep and wakes up less frequently. And even for me, as a deep sleeper, it helps me sleep better and feel like I have more energy in the morning!
It was working just fine, loved it and was very satisfied. Then after about a week, it began shutting off after a couple of hours (didn't have timer set). Now it does not come on at all, The buttons are not very well constructed. Very unhappy. (Especially since I now have to go into the store to return)
