I purchased a Dyson this morning from Walmart, and returned it 1 hour later. It WAS DIFFICULT, AND A PAIN TO USE! I admit it had great suction in the hose, but would not pick up hardly anything off my carpet. Plus, when I got the Dyson home, there are tools you have to purchase separatly. I purchased this Hoover, came home, all parts were included, and revacuumed where I had just vacuumed with the Dyson, and my jaw dropped! You would not have believed the dirt and "stuff" in the canister! It was much easier to use, had great edge cleaning which the Dyson had none, and just glides across the carpet with one finger! The canister is easy to dump, and there are only 2 filters you have to keep check on and wash and dry, very easy task I might add. The power is fantastic, and it really DOES have a great cyclonic action, THAT ACTUALLY WORKS! No, the cord is not as long as the Dyson, but only a by a few feet, and no, I can't set it at the bottom of the stairs and stretch the hose all the way up the stairs like the Dyson showed, but the Dyson did NOT do that either! and.....The reason I want a vacuum is to suck up the dirt, and this SUCKS UP THE DIRT! Really good product for a hundred dollars.

This has been the best vacuum cleaner I have every bought. It works great especially removing dog hair not only from the carpet but from furniture as well. Since, purchasing this vacuum cleaner, my carpets have never been cleaner. Awesome! I recommend this vacuum for anyone with animals that shed.

THE best vacuum I have EVER purchased!

Let me start off by saying, I'am famous for killing a vacuum. They rarely last 6 months in my house. I have white ceramic tile floors in my kitchen bathrooms, and living room, and VERY light beige carpet everywhere else. I vacuum a minimum of twice a day. Did I mention we also have two active small kids, three indoor dogs, three cats, and two birds. Oh, and one husband who has a knack for leaving a trail of crumbs. I purchased this vacuum July 4,2006. I know because we had just had a 4th of July party, and my third or fourth Bissell vacuum had just died. I rushed out to get something else. I saw this, liked it, brought it home and WOW. I have never been so impressed! Although I had already vacuumed the rooms with my dead vacuum, I redid the rooms with the new one, just to 'test' it out, and it was FILLED with dust when I was finished! It's very pretty, and sleek looking, and it's easy to tell when you are getting full. I have had four of five Bissell's, Eureka's and more. All lasted a year, or less. I'm happy to say that with my daily vacuums this one is still going strong. I have eaten the cord up into the vacuum, exposed the wires and just taped it with electrical tape, works great. My husband dropped the canister off our back deck, cracked it but again...just taped it up you would have never known performance wise. It's not loud, it has GREAT suction, and if you suck something up into it, it's easy to pull it back out (which was learned after getting my son's Army men sucked into it many, many times) My only 'cons' to it are if you are vacuuming and arent holding the vacuum or keeping it within 3 feet of you, it will fall backwards (but keeps running I might add!) and the longer you own it and use it, the louder it gets. It's still quieter than some other vacuums, but I have for sure noticed it's not the same as when I bought it. 2 years for my vacuum is like 10 for others, so tomorrow I'm going to go buy another one just like it, just incase they stop manufacturing them! I love this, and cant imagine using anything else! A+ all the way from the vacuuming obsessed stay at home mom!

Save money, Get better suction

We originally bought this vacuum when we lived in Florida. We ended up giving it away when we moved across the country to Washington. Upon shopping for a vacuum for our new home, we saw the Hoover mach 5, and after being so happy with the mach 3, we thought the mach 5 would be worth the extra money. We got home and it had way more features, but less suction. And the main thing you want a vacuum for is to suck up the dirt. so we returned the mach 5, re-bought the mach 3 and saved $80. And the mach 3 picked up a whole bunch of dirt that the mach 5 left behind. The only thing is you have to keep it clean or it may loose suction.

I have a pet that unfortunately developed severe allergies. The reason I bought this vacuum was to help get rid of any contaminates (pollen, dust, etc.) that had settled in the carpet and furniture. I must say I have not been dissappointed with it. The first time I used it I was shocked at the amount of "stuff" in my carpet that the old vacuum left behind. Its lightweight and easy to manuver. But of course nothing is perfect. Do read the instructions. This thing has more filters (3) than other vacuums and unless you know where to find them you won't know that you need to clean them on a regular basis (luckily soap and water does the job fine). Also the first time you remove the canister it can be a bit tricky (doesn't slide in but goes in at an angle). And finally when you use the extension hose if you get carried away the vacuum will tip over. All in all though I would highly recommend it. It does a great job and why pay a heck of a lot more for a machine that does the same work.

A Value Vacuum

The Mach 3 demonstrates excellent carpet-cleaning power, at least as a new vacuum, and if it maintains its performance (I've rated its durability as average simply because it's new) it will be a remarkable value at Walmart for only around $90 with an extended warranty, no less. I bought this vacuum because it was under the $100 price point yet has the cyclonic suction I was looking for, as well as the economy of all-washable filters and bagless-ness. If you've seen Consumer Reports, you'll note that there are several very cheap and highly rated vacuums that use bags, but however arguably Dyson's machines function, he's absolutely right in his critique of old vacuums. Changing expensive bags that drain suction almost immediately is tedious, costly, and outdated. Here are a few cudos and caveats: 1) It is a heavier than normal vacuum, which I personally prefer because the weight helps the brush raise the nap of the carpet, which is one of top two most important things to me in vacuuming the rug in the first place. C'mon, people, it's on wheels, for crying out loud. Use the muscles God gave you! 2) There are two minor design flaws, one trivial, the other important: The hose/pet attachment is awkward to use, even with extension wands. I find myself lifting the vacuum to get easier access to the vacuuming area, which some would find difficult to impossible, and that leaves no hands free to hold down a throw or area rug. The designers seemed to have predicated using the pet attachment only for the floor. Well, if you have a cat that is the least of your vacuuming problems. Second, very minor, the angle at which one normally vacuums throws the light up too far, not to the area right in front of the vacuum, so it's not very useful. You'd think someone would have seen this somewhere along the design road. 3) The vacuum doesn't emit noticeable dusty odors during use, but I'm not terribly sensitive to that issue, and think that was a neurosis invented by manufacturers of bagged vacuums (I've owned them too and see no difference in the dustiness of the vacuuming atmosphere); anyway, it has three filters, and each can be cleaned. 4) I have used it on the next to lowest-level setting for several minutes at a time and the engine has not shut down due to overheating, the problem with my old Mechwarrior-reminiscent vacuum, even though it performed only half as well as the Hoover. That tells me that the filtering system is designed well to not clog immediately and overtax the engine and the engine is sufficiently robust overall. 5) Cleaning the main cyclonic filter is awkward. But I suspect that when I perform the operation more and more it will become easier. The first time one fears doing it wrong and breaking it. Still, the instructions could be better on that operation. 6) Assembly was a not difficult. I think the telescoping handle goes up and down a little too stiffly. I didn't think I would care, but I do like the power button at the top of the handle. By the way the Mach 3 model is not reviewed by Consumer Reports, but it liked the more expensive Mach 5 well enough. And here is my final overarching shopping tip about vacuums, which some might find very helpful. There is apparently no vacuum in the world that isn't rated by some consumers as the best they've ever used or the worst piece of junk they've ever bought. So let common sense prevail. Good luck.

Do Not Buy

I have owned this vacuum for a little over a year. It worked good at first but now things are breaking. From the beginning the canister was a pain to empty. We have 2 dogs and the pet hair would get stuck at the top and you have to open it from the top as well to get it all out, which can make a very big mess! Within a few months the lid at the bottom of the canister broke off making it even harder to empty and put back on the vacuum. The wheels squealed from day one, you have to oil them every so often. Now the center wheels completely broke off just by pushing it into the living room. It does seem to have good suction but everything else is kind of a pain. It does tip over easily also, I have had a few black and blue marks on my feet! The turbo brush does not work very well either. Overall, I was disappointed with this vaccum especially with it being a hoover. I had a Hoover windtunnel previously which was a bag vacuum and was still working very well after 5 years, I just wanted to go to a bagless. I have had this one a year and I am throwing it out and going to give the new Hoover windtunnel platinum a chance. Hopefully spending the extra money will be worth it. If not, I will not buy Hoover again! I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a vacuum cleaner but I don't want to be buying one every year either! Save your money and buy a better vacuum than this one.
