Honestly, having lived a life in finance, I really don't how to use another type of calculator. Great for figuring out cost of funds, payments and return on investment. This is to replace the oldest thing I owned....a 1981 HP12C. It was the one thing I had in my purse after a business trip. Once home, found my home engulfed in flames. I pack a lot more stuff when I travel now.
Great for real estate or just creating what if scenarios for retirement planning. How much money will you need in X years at Y interest rate etc. This Calc has lots of great features and storage registers. Once you read the appendex in the book and learn about the stack registers and r0-r9 and .r0-.r9 registers you will be able to load a 99 instruction program. The 12c uses RPN (reverse Polish notation) and it takes a bit to get used to but once you do it's faster and easier than a regular calc.
Have had an HP 12C for close to 40 years. Still works flawlessly. Just bought two more, one to leave in a second office and the other for traveling. Don't know why I took so long to do this. Cannot speak highly enough. One of the finest -- likely THE finest -- product to come out of the calculator age.
I have owned my HP 12c for over 40 years - and it has been in daily use for the last twenty. Last week, it finally gave up the ghost. I have been bragging and bragging for years about what a great product this is, and alas my old friend is now gone. Never fear though, my brand sparkling Platinum edition has arrived. Amazing engineering!
I have used the 12 C for over 20 years ,it is one of the best financial calculators I have ever used, once you know how to use it, you will never use anything else, ALSO the price was great and the delivery was in two days I thought it was going to be seven day to Ten day ( I'm very happy ) :)
I couldn't live without the HP12c. When I couldn't find my 20 year old HP (in a move to a new location), I found an identical replacement at a great price, and delivered prmptly to my front door.
This was a Christmas gift for a friend who is studying Accounting. I am so glad you still make the 12C, I like it so much more than the TI model her school recommended. And I like the flexibility of the Platinum model, where you can switch back and forth between RPN and Algebraic. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
Buttons work so well (it was made in Phillipinas). Screen is not too shine but it is fine. The only bad thing is that I paid extra money for express delivery (2-3 BD) but they delivered after 4 days…
My 1971 HP-12c was finally retired a couple of years ago. Its only problem was the "2" button was faulty. I had purchased a "Platinum HP-12c" about three years ago to replace my original 12c. The pillow switches below the keys failed right away. By that time HP quit servicing the calculators. Stupidly, I bought another Platinum 12c and it too was defective in just months. I could not survive without a trusty HP 12-c and bought another one of the original 12-c design just recently. It seems to work alright and my fingers are crossed that it will finally take its place as the reliable HP calculator that was my side kick for so many years.
I bought this calculator and I like it. The only problem is now the display segments don't all work. Internet research indicates that I need to take it apart and fix the ribbon connector to the display. I will try that but it is disappointing. I own an HP-45, HP-41CV and an HP-50G. The best quality calculator was the 41-CV. I will take apart my 12C and try to fix it. If I can't fix it the 12C was the most expensive for the number of usable keystrokes I got from it.
