I needed a very cost competitive Laser All-In-ONE for my Real Estate Home office as I did not have the room for multiple machines. I tried two other brands or "HIGH PERFORMANCE" companies and returned them both for lack of features or quality of printouts. I have had this unit for 9 months now and could not be happier. I constantly use all features including the SCAN to Document, FAX, Print, and Copy. All work great, and print quality is far better than the other I tried. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS PRODUCT.
I use this printer in my photography studio to print my designed advertising literature. I love the print quality of the HP 2840. Wished for faster color printing and two sided printing without manuely turning the document. Black/white, color is great quality. External Look professional and stylish, great design. Copys are great and fast. Easy setup and use. A little slow at startup.
I just installed my new LJ2840 and can't get over how great the print quality is and how innovative the product is; from installing print cartridges to the output delivery. I bought the LJ2840 to replace a failing InkJet 7410. My only disappointment is that the Inkjet had a few features that the LJ2840 is missing; from a paper saving "green" duplexer to the InkJet's software suite. It seems that two seperate groups of people developed the software; the Inkjet software suite albiet on the slow side is sophisticated and rich with features, whereas it looks as if LJ2840 software was developed in the stone ages; the browser software interface although functional looks rough and does not have near the funtionality of the Inkjet suite. The other desireable features are: a full 500 page paper bin so that a full ream of paper could be added at a time, and a stapler option would be nice. I hope that HP provides the missing features in the near future; if they do, the LJ2840 would go from a great printer to a spectacular one!!!
I like having an all in one. Although ink-jets were fine for me at first, the cost of ink was just ludicrous. With this laser printer, cost per sheet drops significantly. Not the best for archival photos, but that is what photo processing places are for. I Love it!
I've been using my laser jet 11 months now. I use it everday, sometimes all day. I have printed thousands of assorted items over the months problem free. I use it for printing envelopes,brochures,pictures,documents,faxing and receiving high resoultion faxes, and scanning documents into my computer. Printing has never been so easy and problem free. Paper jams are seldom, and it's easy to fix. I've yet to use all of it's capabilities. Ink cartridges and the drum are so simple to replace, and they last a very long time. I've figured out it's cheaper for me to make my own color brochures than to send them out. My printer is within arms length of my desk, it's my buddy in the office. I've thought about buying another one because I love it so much, but I don't need one yet. The only prob. I've encounterd is the top feeder won't feed legal size doc's and make copies at the same time, it always jams the paper, so I scan legal size into the computer, then print legal from there. I have an extended warranty for this fix, but I don't want to let it out of my office for repairs, so I deal with it. I would recommend this for any small office or home.
I have owned maybe a gazillion printers during my lifetime and so far this is the best one ever. The price is one of the better features considering everything this little puppy can do. It is feature rich and the best part is that the product discription only begins to describe all the bells and whistles. I run a small home business, create and print all my own literature and the features of this printer easily handles all tasks with room to spare. Being able to print, copy, scan and receive faxes in truly vivid color is simply awesome. Maybe a little big for a "kitchen table" office but perfect for the den/spare bedroom office or even for a small or even large business office set up. Speaking of set ups - this is the easiest printer I have ever set up right out of the box. It replaced two separate printers that I was using to do less than this one stand alone unit does. I kid you not when I say that other manufactures can sell you somehing comparable (MAYBE) but you really can expect to pay hundreds if not thousands more-put it to the test and go out there and shop around but do yourself a favor and bookmark this place cause you will probably come back - I did. I replace printers every couple of years but this one promises to last so much longer and that alone is worth the price. Once you go with a fully color laser you will never go back to ink or bubble jet printers again I promise. My hats off and a big HOORAY to HP for this truly amazing printer. A great copier but the operating cost is much greater than I had expected. The 4 print cartridges run about $350 in total and our local stores do not stock all of them. The image drum (which was a total surprise to me) runs almost $200 and is not stocked locally. During the middle of the night it recycles and is very noisy. Unless the operating cost is reduced, I would not purchase again.
I have owned this machine for about 3 months. I found the scanning and printing to be awesome. However, I am a home office user and the machine "cycles" at odd times during the day and night, making it very noisy and bothersome. It can be quite startling if you are concentrating and sitting right next to it, when without warning it starts rumbling. Also, you have to go thru a menu with several push button steps just to change the number of copies you want of a page! And when it's time to change the black cartridge---again you must press buttons and wait several minutes while it rotates thru the cyan, magenta and yellow to eventually get to the black. Another thing, many functions are only availabe by going online. If your internet service is down there are certain things you can't do, you are stuck! I feel the designer needs to use this for 30 days again and make some simple changes to the function and design. Then I could give it 5 stars across the board.
The scanner bed should be larger. The ADF feeder puts a gray border on the bottom of letter-sized scans (very bothersome). The ADF scanned image size options are very restrictive. I wonder how many people actually use the memory card slots? The paper tray should be large enough for a full ream of paper. They should provide a little more space on the sides next to the paper drawer (in height) to allow the drawer to easily slide out. The scanning software could be more robust and flexible. It is very limiting.
I purchased the 2840 and am not happy at all. I use it with both a Windows XP machine as well as an Apple iMac. The scanner settings do not "Save" as the utility leads you to believe, so I ALWAYS get a message "Waiting for PC" or something to the effect that SETUP NOT PERFORMED FOR PC. The net result is whether you use the USB OR Ethernet cables, the machine has RAM in terms of memorizing the Setup, so as a result, you can NEVER use the scanner. This box is a real dud!
